My cock left her mouth with a pop and she grinned. “Now I’m hungry for food. Whatcha get?”

“Woman, you’re killing me.”

We ate out on the deck and grabbed a beer to wash it down. After that, I took her up to the bed and fucked her until she screamed my name. I licked her until I heard my name on her lips. And I sucked on her tit until she told me she loved me over and over.

Then I was satisfied, allowing her to finally fall asleep in my arms, spent and satisfied. Until a shrill ringing woke me.

I thought it was my alarm at first, blinking my eyes open to rummage for it so it would shut the fuck up. But when I noticed the dark skies and the moonlight still shining through my window I shoved the covers aside and sat up.

“What is it?” Savannah asked groggily.

“The phone,” I realized, reaching for the handset I kept by the bed. It paid to have landlines in Moonlight Creek. “Hello?”

“Donovan, it’s Ulrich.”

Ulrich?

He was the one who preferred to live on the outskirts. A wolf who thrived from isolation. He’d also made himself the gatekeeper of the town during the night as he preferred to sleep in the day. I didn’t like the shakiness in his voice.

“What is it?”

“Heard some rumbling going by,” he replied. “Caught the back of a black jeep. Another followed. They’re not anyone we know.”

“Did you catch a plate?”

“No. But three unknown black vehicles? I’m worried.”

“Alright. I’ll drive down to the town now. See what’s going on.”

“I’ll rally the others.”

“Not yet. Not until we’re sure it’s a threat.” I didn’t want any of my people exposed until I knew what was going on. But then back up sounded like a good idea. “Call the guest cabin. Get Max and the others to meet me in the town. Arrange for someone to babysit Justin and keep him safe.” Harrison wouldn’t stay the fuck away if there was a threat coming to our woods.

“I will,” Ulrich blurted, “but hurry. I don’t like this.”

I hung up and rummaged for my clothes.

“What’s wrong?” Savannah asked while I got dressed. She climbed out of bed, fully awake.

“Strange jeeps have ridden into the creek. They disturbed Ulrich. His house is near the border.” I threw a shirt over my head.

“Are we heading to town?”

“You’re not going anywhere.”

She grabbed her jeans and shoved her legs into them. “Yes. I am. I need my jacket.”

“No.”

“Leave without me and I’ll follow you anyway.” She found her jacket and her purse and threw them on the bed.

“Savannah …”

“Your choice, Donovan. I go with you or follow you.”

She grabbed something from her purse, and my eyes widened at the sight of a gun.I wasn’t expecting that.

“Bounty hunter, remember?” She checked the clip and then lay her jacket flat.
