CHAPTERELEVEN
TANNER
Riff shouts atBrianneto go back into the clubhouse and my stomach twists. She doesn’t go anywhere though. She stands there staring at me, daring me to say something, to do something. Nausea burns in my belly, and I know I’m going to throw up any damn minute and I refuse. There is no way I’m going to do that right here in front of him.
“We gotta talk, Tanner. You can’t run away, not from this.”
Shaking my head, I place my palm on my stomach, pinching my eyes closed before I open them and find his gaze with my own.
“I haven’t even told my brother yet. I thought that you should be the first to know, but I’m not telling you because I expect you to do anything. You have a life here. We don’t really know one another. It was one night, and it’s not like this is the 1950s. I’m not here to demand you marry me or anything crazy.”
He doesn’t say anything right away. His gaze searches mine and then he nods his head a couple of times, crossing his arms over his chest as he does.
“You think I’m going to let the best lay of my life come in here, tell me she’s knocked up, then just let her walk away?”
I decide not to address thebest lay of his lifepart, because the naked woman standing behind him makes it very clear he is not sitting around crying in his beer over me. Though I suppose I shouldn’t expect him to. It was one night.
Only one night.
I don’t know him, don’t know his life. Maybe this girl was his girlfriend and he cheated on her with me. My breath hitches at the thought and I decide that I have to know if I’m the other woman. I don’t know why, but a million thoughts are swimming around inside of my head and I can’t get them out.
“Riff. My brother—”
He leans in, his face so close to mine that his mouth is almost touching my own, but he doesn’t look like he’s going to kiss me, instead he looks like he’s going to bite my fucking head off. He growls before he speaks, and I snap my lips closed.
I’m not sure how scared I am right now, but I do know that I need to keep my mouth shut because he’s about to say something and he is very serious about it.
“I don’t give a single flying fuck about your brother, Tanner. This isn’t about your brother. This is about you and me. This is about a baby.”
“Riff,” I breathe.
“Wesley,” he announces. “Wesley Hardy. My name.”
I press my lips together and watch him for a moment, Wesley Hardy.God, that’s a good name.A sexy name. It fits him too, so damn much.
“Why Riff?” I ask, stupidly because this isn’t really the moment for that.
I shouldn’t be getting to know him better. I should be trying to find a way to take my keys from him and get the fuck out of here, but this man… he makes me completely stupid. Totally stupid. And my current situation proves that.
“Because when I started hanging around this club, I played the guitar a lot.”
Looking up at him, I give him a small smile. “Yeah, I could see that,” I say softly.
“Now, back to our discussion.”
RIFF
Ididn’t forget what it was like to be around her but considering this is only my second time, I can fully admit that I like it, so much more than I thought possible. It’s really fucking hard to be pissed off at her right now, too.
She’s so fucking beautiful, her reddish hair, her clean face. She’s dressed differently today and I have to admit that while she’s sexy in a short skirt and a tube top, a cute sweet dress is more her style.
I’m not sure that I should be mad at her though. She didn’t do anything wrong. She wanted to leave after seeing a naked bitch rub up on me. I can’t blame her for that. If the roles were reversed, I would have killed the fuck and asked questions later.
“Maybe we should set up a time to talk… later? Alone?” she offers.
I watch as her eyes lift and trail behind me again. I know that Brianne is probably back there, naked, again. She’s trying really fucking hard to stake her claim on me right now, but she’s not going to.
I’m pretty fucking sure that I’ve been claimed and I’m about to do some claiming as well, and it is Tanner.
