“She was kidnapped. We’re all here, all working together to try to find her,” I explain.
He shakes his head slowly, his eyes never leaving mine. “You didn’t come to me, because?”
I snort, finding his question beyond ridiculous, but instead of getting in a fight with him about it, I tell him the truth about it. “I was out of town. I just got back about an hour ago. I didn’t know she was gone.”
Brent growls. “That doesn’t make this shit any fucking better,” he says before he lifts his gaze and it flicks around the men behind me. “Where the fuck is my sister? You’re supposed to be a big fucking family, right? My sister is where? She’s pregnant and she’s where?” he asks.
“We’re going to get her back,” I say. “Believe me, she will be back, and he will pay.”
Brent’s gaze moves down to meet mine, though this time he looks down his nose at me. “I’m not feeling very fucking confident,” he says.
“You got some kind of plan to find her faster? Some cop resource you can use? I’m all goddamn ears.”
His brows lift and his eyes widen.
“I am not above your help. Just know that once she’s found, that’s where the cop in you has to fucking disappear.”
“Why is that?” he asks.
“Because the shit I do to this man will be illegal and I will not hesitate to do it in front of you.”
“You want to be arrested?” he asks.
“I want vengeance,” I explain.
His lips curve up into a smile and he dips his head. “Okay, then. Let me see what I can do.”
He turns around, taking his phone out of his pocket, and lifts it to his ear. I don’t hear what he says, but it doesn’t take long, whatever it is. Slowly, Brent turns around, his eyes finding mine, and he jerks his chin.
“We should have a location in about twenty minutes, as long as her phone is still on, that is.”
“Fucking hell,” I mutter.
The men behind me chat among themselves, but it’s all white noise because this fucking asshole is going to find her, and then I’ll be at his goddamn mercy, because it’ll be him who saved her, not me.
It’ll be him who can protect her, not me.
I’m goddamn fucking useless, is what I am.
