I brush a kiss over her head, no words sounding adequate to express how much I feel for her. Pulling out my phone, I let everyone know to meet at the bar and find a string of texts and missed calls. I don’t know if Miri realizes how much she’s changed all of our lives since she waltzed into town. I send another text letting them know we’re okay and on our way.

My bike is parked in the middle of the drive, and we climb on. Just as I move to start the bike, Miri clutches my shoulder, prompting me to turn as much as I can to look at her.

“Are you okay? I know you didn’t ask to be bound to me. It’s not okay that the choice was taken from you. I just need to know… I’m sure if anyone can figure out how to undo it Lena could. I hate that you were forced.”

“You were, too. Don’t take this on as if you’re the one responsible.”

“He’s my dad.”

“I thought we went over this. We’re not responsible for the actions of our shitty parents.”

Miri huffs and shakes her head. “I know, I just—”

“—No. We might have been avoiding this to keep everyone safe but… this feels right. To me, it’s like a part of me is whole again.”

Miri presses her lips together, nodding, her eyes bright. “Yeah.”

I wrap my fingers around the hand at my waist, squeezing them. “Yeah.”

As soon as I start the bike, Miri curls around me, her cheek pressed to my back and her arms circling my waist. This might have been one of the most fucked up nights of my life, but nothing has ever felt so right.
