There’s a collective grimace.

“Okay. We’ve been in this situation before. It’s nothing new,” Lena says, smacking her palms against the table in determination. “We’ll research. I’ll look through my books and we can search the library at Wild Cottage.”

Archer grins at her. “That’s my girl.” And presses a kiss to her temple. I give him an unamused look because I don’t need to see him touching my sister, but he just grins and shrugs.

“What other piece of shitty news do you have for us?” Ezra looks like he doesn’t really want to ask.

“Actually, this one should be fun. For once.”

“Our ideas of fun might vary wildly. What are you talking about?” Ruby’s mouth purses and her eyes narrow.

“Zara’s been stuck in Fairy since, well, forever.” Zara flinches a little when I call her out again, so I get to the point. “I think we should give her all the experiences she missed.”

Lena shifts in her seat so she can look at me, curiosity shining in eyes the same color as mine. “What are you thinking?”

“That’s what I want your help with. I thought we could start with a birthday party, then my creativity kind of died. All I could think about for other life milestones was getting drunk and buying cigarettes.”

“Typical,” Ruby huffs, then raises her hand and starts ticking things off. “Riding a bike, prom. Oh! Truth or dare. Driving. Plus, she needs to catch up on at least a hundred movies that she missed out on. What else?” Ruby presses her pointer finger to her mouth.

Miri hums. “What are those key moments in your life that need to be celebrated?”

“The first time I got my dick touched was a pretty big deal.” Ezra crosses his arms, a smug look on his face.

“She doesn’t have a wiener, so you can keep the memory of that time you touched your own peepee to yourself,” Ruby simpers.

“I wasn’t the one who touched it.” The devious arch of Ezra’s eyebrows says he’s about to unleash something that will likely set Ruby off.

I slash my hand through the air. “Enough. Congrats, Ezra, on tricking someone to touch your junk. Not what I was aiming for.” Dealing with these idiots is like herding cats.

Lena pats my shoulder. “I’ve got you. This is totally my thing.”

“I’ll help. You know how much I love to plan a party.” Archer grins at Zara, who blushes and drops her eyes, which gets Archer another dirty look. It also gives me pause.

“As long as you’re okay with all this?” I ask Zara what I should have before I threw this all out to the rest of the group.

Her wide hazel eyes shine with happiness as she gives me a careful smile. “It’s… incredible. That you would all be willing to take the time to do this for me.”

Her sincere words are enough to shut everyone up. Until Davis breaks the silence.

“Ruby, do you think you should take Zara to see Birdie?”

“Way to bring the ax down on the fun Davis.” Ruby grimaces at her cousin while Zara’s eyes shift between the two of them.

‘Who’s Birdie?”

“My grandmother,” Davis says. “And Ruby’s.”
