Instinctively I reached for a Busch Light. Popping the top, I took a long drink. The taste made me think of Luke. How it would feel when his lips fused with mine. That’s what I wanted right now. Maybe if I drank enough tonight I could feel him again. Downing the remainder of the beer I reached for another.

Tash stumbled over to me, Dane in tow. “Hey! There you are! It’s your turn for pong!”

She grabbed my hand pulling me towards the table. I had a good buzz at this point so I didn’t care.

“Kyle this is Kaci. Kaci, Kyle.”

“Nice to meet you.” Kyle, my new beer pong partner stuck his hand out. Placing my palm in his I couldn’t help but notice it was soft. There were no calluses like Luke had.

“You too.” I replied dropping my hand.

Dipping my hand in the water cup I rolled the ping pong ball around before snapping my wrist letting the lose water fly. I tossed it to the other side watching it toilet bowl before dropping in the second row cup.

“Nice one.” Kyle beamed beside me. He tossed his ball missing before turning back to me. “So what brings you here?”

Was that really his idea of a pickup line?“Tash made me come.”

“Kaci! Stop being a bitch and party with us.” She bounced the ball but I smacked it out of the way.

“Then why don’t you get me another beer.” I held up my empty can.

Kyle and Dane just stared at the two of us. Both of them were drinking Coors. Lame. My head was fuzzy but I didn’t care. Looking over at my beer pong partner I couldn’t help but notice how he was nothing like Luke.

He was short. No hat covered his blonde hair. Instead it was slicked to the side. A polo covered his body before it tucked into his jeans. He wore tennis shoes on his feet not boots.

Tash handed me my beer before we resumed playing. Kyle continued to try and make conversation with me but I wasn’t interested. The game seemed to go on forever. It was down to us having one cup and them having three left. Tossing the ball, I sunk it into our solo cup. Jumping up and down I grabbed for the other ball.

“Double or nothing?” I questioned the opposing team.

“Double or nothing.” Dane repeated.

I threw the ball in the air sinking it once again. I turned to Kyle still jumping up and down. My hand collided with his into a high five. Before I knew it I was in his arms. He spun me around announcing that we were champions. Setting me down I saw his face coming at me. Eyes closed lips puckered. Holding a hand up his face met it. Startled he stepped back.

“What the fuck is wrong with you? Why would you even think that’s something I wanted? What even made you have a thought that I wanted you to kiss me?” I yelled.

Stalking off I grabbed another beer and began heading to my room when an arm grabbed mine.

“Look I’m sorry. I didn’t mean…”

Cutting him off I shook his hand from my arm. “I don’t want anyone to touch me or kiss me ever.”

“Okay. I’m sorry. Kaci really I am. I just… I just I don’t know. Tash said you were looking for someone.” Kyle seemed hurt.

“Well I’m not.” Luke’s face flashed in my eyes. “Not unless you’re six-foot-tall with brown shaggy hair, a beard, and the sexiest body I’ve ever seen then no. Not unless your name is Luke Carter.” Tears filled my eyes threatening to spill.

Turning, I raced up the stairs to my room and locked the door. Sinking to the floor I let them fall. They streamed down my face as I tried to catch my breath.

Why did I fuck everything up? My heart was broken in half. It would never be whole again unless Luke was mine again. And I broke his heart so why would he ever want to be back in mine?

Chugging the beer I had with me I closed my eyes and prayed.

I prayed for him to come back to me.

I prayed he would forgive me.

I prayed for him.

I prayed for the pain to go away. For the hurt to stop.
