I listened to Coach ramble on about how this was our year and our team. Shit that was supposed to motivate us. But not me. Looking over his shoulder I watched Kaci cheer on the sidelines. She was my motivation. No matter the outcome she would still be proud of me. Would I be proud of myself if we lost? No. But I would eventually get over it. It’s only high school football. If we didn’t win this game, it would have no effect on how my life would turn out.
Jogging back onto the field I back peddled pointing at her with a wink, just like I did after every huddle. I even got my halftime kiss just like I did at every game. I don’t know how she managed that with all the security but she did.
Drew called the play. I ran my route looking back for the ball. I jumped up clutching it in my hands. Pulling it to my chest I took off down the middle of the field. Drake was on my right blocking as I pumped my legs. This was it. This was the last play. The last play of my career. The last chance to win the ball game. And I was damn sure going to make it count.
“He’s at the 60, the 50, 40, the 30, 20, he’s going all the way! Touchdown Tigers! Tigers win state!” The announcer yelled as I crashed into the end zone. “This is the fifth State Championship Coach Sanders has won. The first one in four years. I tell you what, that was one hell of a game!”
Throwing the ball down I jumped into Drake. We won. We fucking won state! The guys piled up in a huddle hooping and hollering. Nick and Drew poured the jug of water on Coach Sanders, they had been waiting years to finally do it.
Searching the field my eyes met with her hazel ones. Snapping my helmet off I made my way to her. Kaci leapt into my arms. I held her up spinning her around. She looked fucking beautiful. Stripes of black lined under her eyes. Her hair was down with her big cheer bow holding half of it back.
My lips crashed into hers. Maybe it was all the adrenaline or how fucking beautiful she was but I needed her now. I could feel my dick stirring beneath my cup. I pulled her into my arms. She didn’t care that I was covering her in my sweat. Brushing my lips against hers once more she pulled me closer opening her mouth for more. My tongue slid against hers causing her to moan around my lips.
Kaci licked her lips when we finally came up for air. “Good game Luke.”
“Thanks.”
Remembering we were around a shit ton of people we mingled through the crowd. Kaci watched as we received the trophy. Her phone in hand snapping pictures along side my mom. I was definitely going to marry that woman.
