LUKE

I did not want to go to the bar. Not in the slightest. But Kaci and Gracey wanted to go so Drake and I were being drug along. It was St. Patty’s Day and there was a big party. I fucking hated this holiday, if you could even call it that. I didn’t like the green beer and I didn’t like corned beef.

Kaci looked beautiful in her green dress. It complimented her olive skin. I met her at her house once she got off work.

“Hey baby.” Her lips grazed mine.

“How was work?” She hoped into my pickup.

“It was alright. We were busy so it went by fast.”

“Good.”

I honked as we pulled up in front of Drake’s house. Him and Gracey walked out hand in hand. I like to think I had something to do with them getting together. One night Gracey came into the bar to check on me after Kaci left. I was beyond drunk so she drove me home while Drake followed in my pickup. Something obviously happened on the way back to the bar or after, I don’t know, but it was all because of my dumbass.

Kaci moved to get into the back seat as they got closer. Drake got in turning back to her. “You don’t…”

“I don’t mind.” Kaci leaned in giving Gracey a hug. “Where should we eat?”

“Let’s just go to the diner. They have corned beef on special tonight.” Gracey replied.

I was not eating that shit. I knew Kaci would, she loved it. Just the thought of that salty shit covered in cabbage made me gag. Of course they all ordered it while I stuck with a good ol’ bacon cheeseburger.

Once we were finished eating we headed up to the bar for the party. Making our way through we crowd we got up to the bar to order our drinks. Drake and I stood in the corner letting the girls sit down.

“Long time, no see.” Kim motioned to me. “I can see why.”

“Did I take your highest paying customer away?” Kaci laughed.

“Yeah you did. But I’m glad.” She winked. “Good to see you too sweetheart.” Kim smiled at Drake.

“Hey mom.”

Kim sauntered off tending to the other customers. The girls turned around in their stools facing us.

“How much time did you spend at the bar?” Kaci was genuinely concerned.

Swallowing some whiskey, I replied. “Well, like all my free time.”

The girls laughter stopped when a voice cut in.

“Yeah we were here a lot huh?” Jenn’s hand snaked around my bicep.

“Jenn.”

Her hand continued to rub up and down my arm. “Oh hi Kaci I didn’t see you there.”

I did not want to deal with this shit tonight. I was already pissed off that we had to come out to this party. It was stupid. Everyone here was drunk and even more stupid. I knew something like this would happen.

Jenn was Kaci’s weakness. She was the only person Kaci was jealous of. Kaci knew that Jenn was my first kiss. No credit to me, but spin the bottle in Junior High. She knew that I had seen her naked thanks to nudes she claimed she didn’t mean to send to me. We all knew that she was also in love me with. Jenn said it our freshman year of High School after I slow danced with her at Homecoming.

Once we left Kaci was going to lose her shit on me. I knew it, she knew it, hell Drake even knew it. The stare down between the two was something else. I stepped more to the side but Jenn scooted even closer.

“I’m sure you didn’t see me.” Kaci’s voice dripped with sarcasm.

“Yeah I didn’t notice you. At all.” Jenn smiled up at me.

I removed her hand from my arm trying to push her to the side. She didn’t get it. She never did. It didn’t matter how many times I told her I wasn’t into her she wouldn’t quit. Hell she watched Kaci and I together the past eight years and still didn’t quit.
