“Come to me,” Neo calls out.
That’s a given. I pull my arms from NG’s hold and practically run to Neo. His outstretched arms give me comfort. I’m lost in the feel of him, but it doesn’t last.
“Get in the car. We need to get out of here.”
He’s right. We can’t stay here. It’s too dangerous. NG or any of these men could change their minds. I’m lucky I wasn’t raped, but if Eric had left me here for longer, I’m sure they would have done whatever they wanted.
Neo hops into the driver’s seat. He doesn’t even look to see if Eric is following us. We’re on the public street, heading to the tollway before Neo breathes out a sigh of relief.
“Do you think they’ll come back for me?”
Neo takes my hand and squeezes. “Hopefully not. Supposedly Eric gave them what they wanted. If not, I’m sure they’ll take it directly out on him. They know some stuff about him now they didn’t before.”
“What did he really do to piss them off?”
Neo glances at me and smiles before speaking. "He bought a piece of property that was foreclosed on in a land auction. The French guy thinks it's special to his family. He wanted it back, and from what I gathered, Eric said no. So they kidnapped you, thinking that would get Eric to act. I've got to tell you, we won't be spending holidays with your family."
Shock pulses through me. “You still want me?”
Eric squeezes my hand again. “Of course. I care deeply for you. Sure, we don’t know each other well, but there’s something between us. You feel it, don’t you?”
My nod seems almost automatic. I haven't been able to think about what I feel or want. "I honestly thought you wouldn't want me after this. I'm too much trouble."
"No, you're not. Eric is trouble."
"I don't want to quit school. I also don't see myself sitting at home like Valery. She does nothing for herself. It's all for Eric. I can't live like that."
“I wouldn’t think of making you live like her. You’ve got to have your own life. I mean, we can play whatever games we want in the bedroom, but I don’t want you to have nothing for yourself.”
I’m surprised with how open he is with allowing me freedom. “So you’d be okay with me working?”
His gaze swings quickly to me. “Yes. Of course.”
“I want to do science research. I like discovery.”
“I’m good with that.”
The sigh that escapes my lips is filled with hope and wonder. That Neo wants me to be happy is such a foreign concept. I haven’t been able to think of my future because something awful has always been looming.
We’re back at his house as the sun is setting. He pulls me close and stares into my face. “I hope you can get ready fast. The pastor will be here in about twenty minutes.”
“Pastor?”
"Don't you remember? We're getting married."
Maybe I shouldn’t be shocked, but this man keeps surprising me. “I thought…”
“We’re doing this. I can’t wait. I want everyone to know you are mine.”
Is this what I want? I can't think of any reason to wait. With protection from Neo, I'll never have to suffer at my father's house again. Neo's lips gently brush over mine, unleashing a shiver that rocks me. He is exactly what I want and who I want to be with.
I don’t have time to wash my hair and get it dry, but I take time to fix it and pull on a clean dress. It’s not white, and it’s not conservative, but at least it makes my ass and breasts look amazing.
The pastor’s eyes go wide when I step into the room. Neo chokes and spends the next thirty seconds coughing. His father comes over and takes my arm, the smile on his face broad.
Before he walks me over to Neo, the doorbell rings. We hear voices in the front hall, but I don't care who it is. I'm getting married. The door opens just as I take Neo's arm. It's Eric with Valery, Ian, and Delilah.
Why are they here? Panic fills me, and I squeeze Neo's arm. He holds my hand and squeezes. I meet his gaze, and he's not rocked at all by them being here. He's steady as can be. I can't believe I found someone like him. He's one of the best-looking men I've ever met, but it's more than looks. He's kind. He's the type of man I want to spend my life with. He's also good in bed.
