He was not impressed.

Maybe they had just been friends with benefits.

"No! I missed the texts and the emails and the phone calls. I missed seeing you."

"As I missed you."

"I just…we're not in love, or anything."

Something inside him twinged at the thought she did not love him. Even so, he said, "Love is not something I think about."

"No surprise there." Her wry tone was as good as an eye roll.

He ignored the sarcastic tone. "You know me well."

"None of you Asgersen men are what you would call in touch with your softer emotions."

"Is that a complaint?"

"No, just…why didn't you date anyone else?"

"I didn't want another woman."

"But you were really angry with me that last night."

"Should I have been happy with you? You broke up with me."

"Not because I wanted to."

"Because you thought it was inevitable."

"Yes."

"Twenty-four hours."

"What does that mean?" she asked, not sounding particularly worried.

"You have one day to reconcile yourself to telling me why."

"I told you…"

"That you don't have to tell me why you broke up with me unless I ask you to marry me."

"You're saying…" Blythe's voice gave out.

"That I have plans for tomorrow evening?" Did she really think he was leaving their future to chance after the last year apart? "Yes. Be ready."

"I could put the date in my phone, but I don't have it," she said pointedly.

"You will soon," he assured her. His woman did love her portable technology. "A phone anyway. I have arranged to have a new phone delivered preloaded with everything, including your pictures and videos."

"Everything but the spyware?" she asked.

"Yes, and it has superior security software."

"But…"
