CHAPTER16

Katie awoke in a comfortable bed with soft sheets, yet sweat still coated her body. She felt a little cleaner, but still grimy. Cracking open an eye, she found she was someplace different, certainly quieter. The low moans and muffled screams were gone, replaced with people speaking Spanish softly.

The large room she was in had the bed she was on, and on the far side was a kitchen area where the voices came from, and between the bed and kitchen area was a sitting area with a couch and large TV. To her left was a huge computer station, with multiple monitors and a comfortable desk chair.

It was a comfortable room with lots of windows that let in bright light, and the more she looked, the more she realized it was a small one-room house. The curtains were closed on the floor-to-ceiling windows on each wall. A doorway led off to what she presumed was a bathroom.

She looked at the people speaking. The man was painfully familiar, and she knew him, but she couldn’t remember from where, only that she hurt to look at him. Not from his looks, which were torturously gorgeous, but from some memory that she was burying.

The woman was old, impossible to tell how old, and looked kind. She held a basket of things in her arms, speaking with the man who looked mad as hell.

She focused on him, knowing she knew him. But some drug was still in her system and her memory wasn’t right. She had flashes of something awful, men with their dicks in her mouth, and try as she might, she couldn’t remember him being one of them. But she did have a memory of him tossing her on this bed, slamming into her backside, muttering into her ear.

She couldn’t remember what he said, though. Still, farther back in her mind, she had a memory of him making her orgasm more times than she could count. But there wasn’t a specific timeline to the memories, and she couldn’t remember anything clearly enough to know what was happening to her.

Then she saw a dirty cage by his table, and everything came back to her.

He took the basket from the old woman, ushering her out while she still spoke. He still didn’t look happy, but she wasn’t in a cage, so she was going to hope he was trying to rescue her.

That could be a huge mistake on her part, but she had always been one to look on the bright side.

When it was just the two of them, she straightened the blankets around her and sat up. It hurt, so she stopped trying, sinking back onto the mattress.

God, everything hurt.

“My parents can help get me out of this. They have money.” Again, she tried the only thing she’d been able to remember. Parents and ransom. She did have a memory of trying that before and being sneered at for her efforts. She hoped this time would be different.

It wasn’t.

He turned to her with a sneer on his mouth and eyes dark as pitch. She couldn’t reconcile this man with the one who had fucked her into oblivion in some hotel somewhere, so Katie told herself he wasn’t the same person and her mind was playing tricks on her.

“Your parents can’t help you.” He settled the basket on the table. “You should rest more. You need to get the drugs out of your system. Abuela is bringing something to help with that.”

Irritation laced his words, and she shrank into herself. Katie looked back at the computer monitors.

“I know you.” She stated it simply, yet it was a question.

“You don’t remember?” He strolled to his desk and sank into the chair. “You will.”

It was a promise, but she couldn’t dwell on it right now. She felt the pull of exhaustion tugging her down, and instead of fighting it, she succumbed just as he turned on his computer system, and a familiar game came up on the screen.

Holy shit. She knew now, but it was too late. She’d already told sleep to take her, and her eyes were drifting shut.
