He didn’t answer, instead slamming the door on her.

Soon enough, she knew why.

That voice.

The man on the other side of his door was the one who had taken her to the room, shoving his dick in her mouth and leading the parade of strange men demanding to take advantage of her.

And Cassie.

She wept silently as she trembled in the tub, unwilling to let him know she was here. Trying desperately to disappear.

She now knew, without a doubt, that Antonio, the man who had seduced her through a fucking video game, was working with the men who had taken her. Apparently, he hadn’t taken her anywhere, and that man could get to her anytime he wanted to.

Memories of smells and tastes as those men had shoved their cocks in her mouth, one after the other, grunting and spilling their seed in her, on her face, on her naked body, assaulted her. She was lost to them when Antonio came back into the bathroom.

She shrank away from him.

He froze, looming over her.

“You’re one of them.” Her voice was a hoarse whisper, but he reacted to it. His entire posture softened, and he knelt on the ground outside the bathtub.

His eyes were the darkest of night, but they swirled with sorrow and regret. Good. He should feel those things. It didn’t do anything to soften her toward him.

She hated him.

“It’s not what you think,” he said simply, before turning on the water and plugging up the tub. “Tell me if it’s too hot, Cariño.”

“Don’t call me that.” Tears leaked out of her eyes. That name was what had done it for her. Love. She’d thought he’d meant something by that word, but he hadn’t.

He couldn’t have.

She’d spent an entire night googling it, getting grammar lessons in the process. It meant the feeling of love and didn’t refer to a specific person. There wasn’t really an English equivalent, not exactly. In English, they’d say My Love, but Cariño was more than that.

To her anyway. Apparently to him, it was a pickup line.

He squirted bodywash onto a washrag and started raking it up her legs, holding one foot in his hand. He was surprisingly gentle, but his grip was firm. It was almost a threat, that if she fought him, he would make this harder than it had to be.

“How long have you been here?” He washed her other leg, almost clinically, contradicting his previous interactions with her that night, when his every touch set her nerve endings on fire.

Now she felt nothing.

She didn’t know the answer to his question. She thought hard about it because she was honestly afraid to not answer him. Katie had no idea what this man would do. She didn’t know him at all.

“I don’t know. You all took me from the reunion. In the limo.”

He made a noise in the back of his throat but showed her nothing.

“You killed my friends.” She said the words quietly, but the emotion behind them was loud and clear in the quiet bathroom. She didn’t know why she elaborated, except he was acting like he didn’t fucking know. “You killed Eddie, and I don’t know what happened to anyone else, but Cassie is still here.”

She sat up in the tub, glaring at him. He dropped her foot and stared at her silently.

She didn’t know what she expected from him, but it wasn’t for him to dip the washcloth in the tub of hot water and squirt more soap onto it before washing her back.

“Three weeks.” She allowed him to softly scrub her back, large circles that relaxed her more than she wanted to admit. His words were soft and low but gave her an answer she hadn’t had.

She’d been here three weeks.

And his voice told her he hadn’t known.

He dropped the cloth in the soapy water and stood.

“Go ahead and finish up. I’ll have something for you to eat when you’re ready.” He nodded to the sink, where she noticed a towel neatly folded next to a small stack of clothing.

Then he left her alone.

She sank into the water, letting it flow over her as she silently wept tears into the water.
