“Oh no. She gets it from you. She gets her enthusiasm for life from you, Brady. She’s strong, she’s bright, and she’s secure in her world. She has more imagination than any child I’ve ever known.”
On their way back to the house, they walked silently, hand in hand. Tate was always leading them in front, and from time to time, he’d turn around to make sure they were still following behind. Their arms swung together as they casually mounted the steps and walked in through the rear door.
Maggie studied the kitchen as if it was the first time, then looked at the furniture in the living room, and pulled on his hand as she led him down the hallway past Emma’s room and to their bedroom. She gingerly pushed him to sit on the edge of the bed.
She straddled his hips with her knees, pulling her dress over her head. She sat on top of his lower belly and then slowly leaned over and kissed him in her underwear while removing his shirt.
“I’ve been thinking a lot about this,” she whispered.
“You have?”
“Yes, Brady, I have. I want to make sure nothing ever comes between us again, unless it’s something we’re working on together.” She gave him a long, moist kiss.
“Partners forever, Maggie. Forever and forever,” Brady said.
“Absolutely.”
Her fingers massaged his temples, around the shape of his ears, and then one forefinger traced across his lips.
“I want you to do what you did when I left. You remember that?”
“Of course I do. I remember everything about that.”
“You said you were hoping you’d make it so that I would never want to leave.” She smiled, her eyes flashing, her red hair going in all directions like her locks were made of fire. “I want you to make me pregnant. Let’s have another baby, maybe two or three.”
“All at once?” he asked.
She leaned over on him, kissed him again, and slowly whispered in his ear, “No, Brady, one at a time. I want to savor the act of love that creates them. I want to cherish every single minute with you. I want to share my life with you and with them, forever and forever.”
“You got it, Sweetheart.”
