I knew his counter would be that I worked for his company, so every penny I had was because of him.

I couldn’t argue with that, so I kept my mouth closed.

“It was good to catch up with you, Amy. We should do this again. You should try to make it a point to see your father more,” he said.

His phone dinged, and he looked at that, then looked at me.

“Can you find your way back? I have something I need to take care of.”

“Sure. But I need to get—”

He cut me off. “I’ll have Todd bring your things.”

“Yes, sir. Have a nice evening,” I said timidly.

“You too,” my father said, though he wasn’t even looking at me.

He left, and a minute later, Todd reappeared with my briefcase and lunch bag. My purse was at my side.

“You sure you can get home, Amy?”

“Yeah. It’s no problem,” I said, smiling.

“Well, have a good night. I should go. Don’t want to keep him waiting,” Todd said.

I smiled and then started to gather my things.

I noticed the leather booklet on the table and realized that my father had left me with the check.

I sighed, the sound full of heartbreak that I couldn’t help but hear.

“Dinner was that bad?”

I recognized the voice instantly, just as I recognized my reaction. That single sentence made me forget about my father, my sadness.

Made me forget everything.

That deep voice set my heart thudding, sent a tingle through my body that settled low in my stomach, and made my nipples pucker tight.

I cleared my throat and then looked up.

“Josh?” I said.

“Didn’t recognize me without the khakis?” he asked.

I looked down, taking in his dark slacks, my gaze centering on his crotch before I forced myself to look up.

“Guess not,” I said, my voice squeaking, though I tried to ignore it.

“So, I should go somewhere else?” he said.

“Um…what?” I asked, distracted by how handsome he was and embarrassed by my reaction to him.

He chuckled, the low sound in his throat, the way his lips curved up making my sex clench.

“For dinner? Should I go somewhere else?” he asked as he approached and sat in the seat my father had just vacated.

“N-no,” I said, shifting, then wiping my hands down my pants, trying to calm myself. “The food is great.”
