“So why do you look so sad?”
“Me? I’m fine. Why are you here?” I said.
He smiled, and then I laughed. Then he leaned back in the seat.
“I got stood up,” he said.
“What?” I said much more loudly than I’d intended.
Still, the idea of Josh getting stood up was impossible to imagine.
“Yeah, I was supposed to meet someone here an hour ago.”
“I’m sorry,” I said.
He shrugged. “Whatever. And besides, I ran into you. So it worked out. But you’ve had dinner already?”
I looked down at my half-eaten salad. “Not really.”
“Great,” he said, giving me another of those panty-wetting smiles. “What’s good here?”
