“Yeah,” she said.

“So can you give us a moment?” Elias asked.

She looked from me to Elias, then back at me.

“I don’t take kindly to being dismissed, and I know you have your business and your secrets, but if it’s something that concerns Crystal and me, I need to know,” she said.

“And you will,” I responded.

She nodded, seeming to accept my answer, then rose and drifted toward the back.

I didn’t doubt she looked in on Crystal, and then I waited a second more until I heard the bedroom door close.

“Isaac,” I said.

“My thoughts exactly,” Elias responded.

“So what’s the play?”

“We find the spot where they were kept,” he said.

“I’m sure they’ve cleaned it,” he said.

“Probably. But I’ll find it and check it out. And then we’ll go from there,” he said. “Is she all right?” He looked down the hall.

“I don’t know,” I responded.
