“I’m glad they’re okay,”Amethyst said later that night.

“I am too,” I responded, staring at her where she sat on the edge of the bed.

I sensed she wanted to say more, but I didn’t push. Knew that she would say what she needed to in her own time.

She stood and walked toward me, her expression somehow serious and mischievous at the same time.

“They’re cute together,” she said when she stopped in front of me.

“You’re cute,” I responded, a smile lifting my lips.

She murmured noncommittally, so I put my hands on her hips and then stood and pulled her close to me.

“You don’t believe me?” I asked, before I traced the shell of her ear with my lips.

She shivered, and another smile lifted her face. A real one this time. But that wasn’t an answer.

“You don’t believe me?” I repeated.

A huffed-out laugh was her response.

I tsked. “I must fix that.”

“What are you—” she squeaked when I picked her up and carried her to the bed.

Didn’t give her a chance to react before I started working the buttons of her shirt open.

Next came her pants and underwear, but unlike before, I didn’t sense shyness in her nakedness, felt the connection and comfort that deepened every day.

She watched me undress, her gaze so intense it felt like a physical touch. She started to lay back, but I shook my head.

“Nope. You’re driving,” I said.

She smiled but then turned serious as she straddled me.

I wasn’t sure if I’d ever get used to the way Amethyst made me feel, wasn’t sure that I would ever be worthy of her love.

But as I entered her, I silently promised that I would dedicate every day of my life to showing her mine.

“I’ll be back soon,”I whispered much, much later.

Amethyst shifted then turned until she was facing me.

“I love you, Davit,” she said.

Her voice sounded almost heartbroken, but I ignored that sound and the tug in my chest that accompanied it.

“I love you more, Amethyst,” I whispered.

She gave me a smile, one that was almost wistful.
