Chapter Seven
“Come here,” he said as he sat on the sofa.
She walked to him and sat beside him. “What’s going on? You’re scaring me. Is it my sister and mom? Did something happen to them?”
“Settle down. They are just fine, pet. We think you might be able to see them tomorrow if all goes well tonight.”
“What’s tonight?”
“My father and Alastair have a meeting with a few people. We weren’t going to tell you about it until it was over, but we have been told that you and Faith need to be in the room for a bit. I don’t want you to freak out, but the meeting is with your father and Rizzo.”
“They’ll be here in the house?” God, she could feel her heart pound out of control, and her palms started to sweat.
“Yes, but you’ll be protected the whole time.” He kissed the back of her hand. “They just need to be able to see the two of you so we can get them into the house.”
“Why?”
“Because we have some people who are coming to help take care of them. But we’re guessing Rizzo and your father will want proof that you’re here before they come in. The meeting is all about getting them taken care of, so you’ll never have to see them again.”
“Like ever?”
“Yes.”
“So, we just sit there?”
“Yes, until we get them into the room, you’ll be led out. I’ll be with you the whole time. I don’t have to stay in the room with them, so we’ll take you two up to Beth’s room and stay until they’re taken away.”
“Can they touch us?”
“Fuck no. They won’t get within a foot of you. Trust me, pet.”
She exhaled and nodded. “Okay. It just makes me sick to think of being so close to them.”
“I know. Just keep telling yourself this will be the last time you ever have to see either.”
“They’ll be dead, right?”
“Eventually.”
“What does that mean?” she asked.
“I guess the people taking them will give them a taste of what they’ve done to so many people before they kill them.”
“Does it make me a bad person to feel good about that?”
“Not at all. Your father is a sick fuck, and you’ve had to deal with him your whole life. He deserves everything he’s going to get. Don’t forget the hundreds of women and children they’ve sold over the years and the ones Rizzo has killed for pleasure.”
“God, I wish I could see them die.”
“No. Even if you could, I won’t allow it. I will protect you with everything I have.”
She nodded.
“Graham will bring Faith down, so let’s go into Alastair’s office and wait for them.”
Her grip on his hand tightened the closer they got to the room where the meeting would occur.
“Let’s set you on the sofa. It’s a ways from the door, so we have room to have men between you and them.”
