I roll my eyes.
Bit of a blow. Guess it’s pretty accurate though.
I nod over at Henry, next to Bridge.
“And you’re what? On a shopping spree with my brother?”
(“Hey, man.” Hen nods at me as we bump fists over the table)
“Well,” she shrugs. “One of the Ballentines should be buying me things.”
I roll my eyes again.
“And anyway, what I’m doing isn’t the point. What are you doing?” she asks Bridget, frowning.
Bridget gestures to herself. “What am I doing?”
Magnolia nods, impatient.
Bridge swipes her hand through the air.
“Honestly, Magnolia, I’m just trying to get this show on the fucking road—” She waves her hand between us.
“Excellent.” Henry nods.
Bridget looks over at Henry. “How long are these growing pains going to last for, do you think?”
He shrugs. “Already been too long, in my opinion.”
“Growing pains?” Parks blinks, pretending she doesn’t know what her sister means.
“Yes.” Bridget scratches her nose, indifferent. “It’s very tedious watching you two be with other people.”
Parks looks over at me, her eyes wide with embarrassment, but she’s happy.
I lick away a smile.
“Then you should watch something else,” Magnolia tells her.
Bridget folds her hands on the table.
“Oh, that I could, Magnolia. Oh, that I could.”
Parks rolls her eyes in an over-the-top way and looks back at me.
Wants me to pipe in.
My eyes fall down her face. Forget what I’m doing. Forget the day of the week, the month, the hour. What a face.
Her cheeks go pink, watching me watch her.
“Normal people don’t look at each other how you’re looking at each other right now,” Henry says, gesturing to us. Fucking arsehole. “I’ll just say, that — that was an abnormal exchange.”
Bridge nods. “Totally weird, yeah.”
“You two are insane. We just glanced at each other.” Magnolia rolls her eyes, but her hands are pressed onto her cheeks. A dead giveaway.
