Best week I’ve had in a while, being her friend again.

Took her golfing. Shocking: she’s rubbish. Which is exactly what you want from a girl you love and who you’re trying to take shit slow with. I absolutely helped her with her swing at every hole, which was way more than necessary.

We’ve fallen back into step too easily.

Took a long drive down to our school the other day. No real reason, we got in the car, drove to Kent. Didn’t really talk about anything, just shooting the shit which is something I feel different about now.

The ease between us is something else. Not everyone has an ease how we do.

It’s not an easy relationship and she’s not an easy person to be with. That’s not what I mean, she’s a fucking nightmare 900% of the time, but the ease between us that’s probably a once in a lifetime kind of thing. The result of boarding school and trauma bonds and her heart on my sleeve and mine in her back pocket.

I’m meeting Magnolia over at Holland Park for dinner with her family at no.25, and to be honest, I’m shitting myself a bit. Jo told me that Harley and Julian got along crazy well. Like, Harley told him he could marry her if he wanted, which seems like bullshit to me. Sure, yeah, Harley’s been a lax dad, but who’s sending their daughter down an aisle with a gang lord?

Bit hard to hear regardless.

Her family used to love me, but now (besides Bridge) I don’t know what I’m walking into.

I knock on the front door. Weird. Haven’t knocked on this door since our first date. It swings open and Magnolia’s confused face fills the frame.

“Knocking?” She gives me a look. “You really are taking things slow.”

I smile at her, step inside, grab her wrist and pull her into me. My dream girl to the bone.

What a fucking time to be alive. Girl I love in my arms, I haven’t fucked up, she’s not hooking up with anyone for the single purpose of shredding my fucking soul, and we’re standing in the foyer of the house she grew up in, holding her how I used to when my mum would make me come home sometimes and Parks didn’t want me to leave.

“Well, this is very full circle,” Bridget says as she walks down the stairs.

Parks breathes out a little sigh and I press my mouth into her hair because I won’t kiss her yet and then she pulls away.

I toss an arm around Bridge, following Parks to the dining room.

I nod my chin towards it. “What’s my yelp rating like in there?”

Bridget grimaces. “Hard to say.”

I nod, accepting my fate. “Anything I should know?”

Bridget nods. “New BOTM’s in there—”

“What’s that now?” I blink at her.

“Boyfriend of the month.” Parks turns on her heel, rolling her eyes at her sister.

“Arrie’s?”

“No, Bushka’s.” Magnolia rolls her eyes.

Toss her a look. “Wouldn’t put it past her.”

“This one’s pretty hot, actually,” Bridget tells Magnolia.

“Great.” I roll my eyes.

“And young.” Bridget eyes me.
