Arrie gives Harley a smug look.

Harley goes to say something but Bushka interrupts—

“—Is not so bad.” Bushka shrugs. “I date twenty-six year old.”

Magnolia looks horrified. “Who?”

Bushka points to me. Marsaili rolls her eyes.

“I show you ver good time.” She nods and then points at Parks. “She so small, she not know how to drink.”

Parks frowns.

“Well,” I consider, “she knows how to drink fine. Doesn’t know how to hold it very well.”

Parks frowns more and I smirk over at her.

“I be good lover.” Bushka nods and Magnolia spits out a little bit of wine.

(“Wow.” Bridget nods as Mars shakes her head. “I’m not putting vodka in your juice anymore. No. I don’t care how much you ask me.”)

I give Bushka a playful look. “You know what? As tempting an offer as that is, I’m actually in love with this girl—” I deliberately don’t look at Parks. “And we’re taking it slow. Pacing ourselves. Never been so good at pacing ourselves, to be honest.”

(“I’ll fucking say,” Harley says under his breath.)

“And it’s my job to not dick around.” I give Bushka a rueful smile.

“How’s that been going?” Bridget asks brightly.

“Yeah, good.” I nod.

“—It’s been a week,” Magnolia interjects.

“I had a shoot today with some very pretty girls,” I tell Parks, proudly. “Didn’t even look twice.”

“Really?” Bridget blinks. “Didn’t look twice?”

“Nope.”

“How’d you know they were pretty then?” Bridget asks and I give her an unimpressed look.

“Would you like some wine?” Magnolia asks loudly over her sister, holding out the bottle to Nathan.

“Oh, no thank you—” He shakes his head. “I’m not drinking for the month of April.”

Parks stares at him, face visibly confused as she tries to process the information. “But… that doesn’t even rhyme with ‘dry’?”

“I beg your pardon?” Nathan blinks, confused.

Me and Harley start laughing.

“I did Dry July once,” Arrie announces, nobly.

And everyone gives her varying degrees of dubious looks. Parks tenses up and flicks her eyes over to me. I shake my head at her subtly.

She leans in towards me and whispers, “We’re really going to let her refer to the time she was in rehab as ‘Dry July’?”

“We are.” I give her a stern look and try not to show it on my face that I’m dizzy with her near me like this.
