“Who the hell are you?” Lucas spits at Micah.

I back away from them, unsure of what is about to happen. “I’m your worst nightmare if you ever touch her again,” Micah whispers, the harsh tone sending cold shills down my spine.

Lucas looks between me and Micah and from his startled expression, I can tell that he is confused right now. Rich guys like Micah don’t venture out to the trailer park unless they are buying drugs or looking for hookers.

“Is this your pimp?” Lucas asks, and I feel like I’ve been slapped across the face.

Though, before I can respond, Micah leans in and talks to Lucas. His voice is low, but I can still hear what he’s saying. “My father is part of the Antoni Mafia Family. I don’t think they would like it if I told them some old man was bullying a high school girl.”

Lucas’s eyes bulge and he visibly shakes now. We all know the meaning behind Micah’s words. The Antoni Mafia can make people disappear and I doubt very many people would miss Lucas. The kiss Micah and I had shared had rocked my world, but watching him stand up for me, is doing something else to my heart, body, and soul. No one has ever rescued me. No one has ever cared enough to defend me. And now, this rich boy who is part of the mafia has come to do all of those things. I feel like I’m living in a dream because nothing good ever happens to me.

Lucas finally nods and then walks away. I’m left standing there with Micah, my body shaking, and my eyes glued to the beautiful boy before me. He looks so out of place right now, like a diamond thrown in a pile of garbage.

“Come on, you need to get out of here,” Micah says, reaching out to take my hand.

“Wait, what?” I ask, flabbergasted. I take a step back, so he can’t touch me. To be honest, I’m afraid that if he were to touch me, I wouldn’t be able to say no. “Why did you come back?” I yell out.

“My guys have an informant around here and they told me that Lucas was heading toward your trailer. I turned around and came back. I’m going to take you some place where you can be safe. Do you have any family or friends nearby?” he asks, as he turns to head toward his SUV. Micah doesn’t stop walking until he opens the driver’s side door to his Range Rover. When he realizes that I’m not behind him, he pauses. “What are you doing?”

Shaking my head, I finally find my voice again. “I don’t have any family to go to.” I’m humiliated by my circumstances right now. “My friend, Ally, lives close. I can go stay with her,” I finally say.

There are no words to truly express how I feel about what Micah has told me. He has informants watching Lucas? He just decided to come back and what? Save me? I never knew guys like this existed until I met Micah.

“Ok, I will take you to her house,” he says, jumping into the driver's seat and closing the door.

I wait a moment and then slowly walk up to the car. When I open the door, the scent of leather billows out of the interior and I can’t help but inhale the sweet scent. I’ve never smelled it before, and I can see why people love it so much. As I sit down, my body conforms to the seat. My eyes dance around the interior and admire the wood and chrome design. I’ve never been in anything this fancy and clean and I almost feel like just being here dirties the space. Seeing my trepidation, Micah chances a glance my way.

“What’s wrong?” he asks, as he starts the engine.

“I feel very out of place in this car,” I say honestly. Especially, after he was just inside the trash can I call a home.

“Why?” Micah asks me. He looks so handsome with the slight glow of the interior lights. His chiseled jaw makes him look like a Greek God.

I can’t help but laugh at this. “I don’t exactly look like someone who should be sitting in an expensive car.”

Micah pulls away from my trailer and I can see his jaw tense. I get the vibe that he wants to say something, but he allows silence to take over for a few minutes. Finally, he speaks. “I think you look great sitting my car.”

His words strike me, and I am thankful that it’s dark inside. My cheeks burn from the heat rising to my face. Micah does something to me and I hate how my body reacts to him. We come from two different worlds and would never work out, but still, I can’t help but enjoy the feelings he evokes in me.

“Why did you show up here tonight?” I ask. The question had been in the back of my mind since I first saw him, but everything happened so fast, I didn’t get a chance to ask until now.

Micah looks at me and I see a look of anger flash through his eyes. “I was worried about your front door. I didn’t like the idea of you staying here tonight without a way to shut out the world.” He shakes his head, and chuckles a little. “I am not handy or anything and honestly, I’m not really sure what I expected to do, but I just needed to check on you.”

The fact that he cared enough to check on me doesn’t go unnoticed. I don’t know how to respond to that. I feel uncomfortable accepting any help from people. I’m so used to figuring things out on my own, but I am grateful that he decided to come anyway.

“That wasn’t necessary, but I appreciate it,” I say quietly.

“So, where exactly am I taking you?” he asks, as he pulls out onto the main road. He’s clearly just as uncomfortable as I am right now.

“Turn right at the stop sign,” I begin, providing him with directions to Ally’s.

I take out my phone and type a quick text to her.

Me: On my way to your place. Can’t stay at the trailer.

Ally replies instantly and I wonder what she will think when I arrive in a Range Rover.

Ally: Ok, I will be waiting.
