Micah’s eyes grow wide, and he cocks his head to the side. “Ok?” he questions.

Nodding my head, I offer a slight smile. “Ok, you win for now,” I say.

His face brightens with a wide smile, and I can’t help but giggle at his reaction. “So, does this mean you will stop being so damn stubborn and unblock me?” he asks, pulling me in for a hug.

Even though I’ve fought him so hard, I give in and hug him back. “I can’t promise that I won’t still be stubborn, but I’ll unblock you-- for now,” I say, with a smirk.

Micah’s arms tighten around me, and I can’t help but snuggle further into his hold. There is something about having his strong arms wrapped around me that makes me giddy and smile. I can’t remember the last time I’ve smiled so much and so genuinely in all of my life.

“Well, I’ll get you to give in eventually,” he teases.

Unfortunately, I think he is right.

His hold loosens and as he releases me, I feel that shield of comfort and safety slowly fade away. Part of me wants to jump right back into his arms again.

“Now,” he begins, taking my hand, “Where are we going?”

That stupid smile that appears whenever he’s around, is still glued to my face and I hate how silly I must look. “I have a race tonight. Tank called me after school.”

I usually don’t race on school nights, but I’m desperate. After Lucas added interest to my late payments for rent, I don’t really have a choice. I need the money and I need it now.

Micah watches my face for a moment, and thankfully, he doesn’t ask me any prying questions.

“Alright, let’s go get your bike and go win a race,” Micah says, and my heart leaps in my chest
