“Why would I hate you?”

“Because I am fae and people fear what they do not understand.”

I reached out and took his hand closest to me. He tensed then relaxed.

“You have given me no reason to hate you. In fact . . .”

My voice trailed, the flutters in my stomach enlarging to the size of the monarch moths and making me pause. How did I feel about Baine?

“What were you going to say?” There was an eagerness in his tone.

“Well,” I stammered, not knowing how to express what I was feeling. I definitely didn’t want to sound like a fool. “You’ve been kind and gentle, when you’re not bossing me around.”

At that, his lip quirked up.

“You are a very strong-willed woman.” He leaned over and kissed my forehead. “Sleep well, and tomorrow try to hide those flames in your eyes when I walk by.”

“I’ll do my best, though I’m sure it’ll be very trying.” I batted my eyelashes for added effect.

Though we didn’t say it, we both knew when the sun rose, everythingwould change.
