“Are we going to talk about this?” I folded my arms, mimicking his stance.
Instead of answering, he gazed at me, intense, and took a slow step closer. With each step, the intensity of his gaze deepened until I got so flustered, I thought I would trip over my own feet. Taking me by the waist, he dragged me into his embrace and kissed me.
Long, tender, and full of everything joyous in the world. With his powerful hands grasping me, tantalizing me with thoughts I shouldn’t have about anyone, I knew in that moment, there would be no one else,ever.
Our kisses shifted from soft and gentle to urging. A breeze blew around us, lifting our hair and tickling our necks. His mouth moved from mine, trailing across my cheek to my ear to my neck, and I knew that if I didn’t ask my questions now, I’d be lost to the desire burning through my core.
With great difficulty I pulled away, causing Baine to glare at me, his hooded gaze making me question my decision to stop. No matter how delicious he tasted on my lips, I needed answers.
“You called me your mate,” I reminded him, watching his reaction carefully. “I don’t know about the fae, but I know a lot of the other races mate for life.”
He touched his forehead to mine. “We do. It is no easy thing.”
With a deep sigh, he wrapped me in a hug, holding me close. “I cannot change how I feel, but I won’t force you into any commitment.”
Dragging a hand up my back, he gently touched my neck and tilted it back so we could look at one another. “How do you feel about me?”
“The moment you went through that portal, I thought I’d lost you. I never want to lose you again. Stay with me, today, tomorrow, and every day after.”
His lip curled into a grin and his lavender gaze sent a shiver through my body. “I promise to never leave you again. You are mine,forever.”
And with those four words, he swept me off the ground and never put me back down.
