Here we go.

Climbing upon the railing, I lifted one leg over then the next. With the railing against my back, I held on, the tips of my feet dangling over the small lip of the ship. It wasn’t a deathly drop. Though, I wasn’t entirely keen on jumping. Still, what choice did I have?

The wind blew my hair and I breathed in, gathering the courage to jump in the water with that monstrous creature. Male and female of all races joined together to defend the Oasis. Fire crawled around the various piers and the smoke blocked out most of the fight. Whether or not it was coincidence, I knew that creature was here because of me. If I didn’t help, the place that I had come to have to this grand adventure would be destroyed. Everything I had risked coming here, all the pain I had caused my family, all of it would be nothing compared to the devastation happening before me.

You can do this Havana. The creature’s not near you. Just jump in and swim in the other direction.

Thankfully, my father’s ship was at the far western side of the harbor, not close to the sea creature who thrashed in the water.

Amidst all the yelling and crashing, a loud whistle caught my attention. Searching across the water a pair of golden eyes met mine. A gaze I had become too familiar with. Leon stood on his ship, holding the rigging, and shaking his head as if he knew what I was about to do.

“It’s okay,” I said. “It’s fine.”

Even though he couldn’t hear me, I said the words aloud, trying to reassure him, and that I was going to fix this. Though, to be honest I had no plan, but this was an island of pirates, right? Surely, someone here could get these dampeners off.

Leon screamed, going for the railing before Havoc yanked him away. The two of them argued and Leon pointed in my direction. Havoc yelled back and whatever he said made Leon frown. The two started arguing, and I sat there gripping the railing behind me, holding myself on, watching the two fae fight. Leon’s gaze flitted from me to Havoc until he finally shook his head and threw his arms up, as if he was giving into whatever his crewmate wanted.

It was then I noticed theRavagerpulling out of port. It was already further out then other ships. The crew must’ve set sail as soon as that octopus attacked.

They’re leaving?

Leon gave me one last look as if this was the moment he turned his back on everything.

Leon had talked about the Oasis as if it was his home. Why would he leave? How could he leave? It didn’t make sense. But sure enough, theRavagerfloated out to deeper water. It was then I decided no one was going to save us and with that stubborn thought, I let go of the railing and jumped overboard.
