Emma

Eight months later…

Our first eightmonths as a married couple somehow felt more like eightyears. But in a good way, not in a “when the hell is this going to be over” kind of way. I never thought being married could be so amazing and so rewarding.

It’s like, the three of us have such a special bond coursing between us and nothing can come between us and take that away. I finally feel like I belong somewhere, with my people. And that is one spectacular feeling.

Now, being pregnant on the other hand- well, let’s just say it hasn’t beenasamazing as being married. I mean, aside from throwing up every morning, hating foods that I used to love, all the doctors appointments, and having to pee every ten minutes- it’s a very interesting experience.

Am I scared to pop out two babies? Hell yes. But am I worried that we won’t be able to handle it? Not at all. I know that the three of us are going to bet the best damn parents ever, and I’m so excited to meet our two little babies.

Luckily, I’m not going to have to wait much longer, considering my water broke about twenty minutes ago, and we’re now on our way to the hospital. The day that I’ve been terrified of but also excited for is finally here.

“Okay everybody stay calm- we’re about three minutes from the hospital and then everything is going to be just fine.”

“And you said you called?? They’re getting a room ready for her?”

“Yes, Luke- I called, and they are getting her birthing suite ready,” Isaac says.

“Okay well it better be ready when we get there. If we have to wait around for more than like five minutes- someone’s going to hear it from me.”

“Okay boys, boys- calm down. If we have to wait, that’s fine. I’m not in a huge amount of pain right now, and everything is going to be alright. Just breathe,” I tell them.

“You’re right- this is going to be a night we’ll never forget- we should try to make it as positive as possible,” Isaac says.

“Exactly. We will remember this for the rest of our lives. This is going to be such an amazing experience.”

“I have no idea how you two are able to look at this in such a positive way. All I can think about are all the things that could go wrong- my mind won’t stop going and going and going,” Luke admits.

“Baby- nothing is going to go wrong. And if something did go wrong- the three of us could handle it.”

“What if they look at us weird? People always do.”

“Luke, honey- who cares? And besides- our OBGYN is there, and she is going to make sure all the nurses and everyone is aware of our situation. No one will be judging us or looking at us weird. All they are going to care about is getting our babies out healthy.”

“You’re right… you really are. I need to just calm down, I don’t know why I’m freaking out so much.”

“It’s natural to be scared. But that’s what we’re here for- to help you through that.”

“Alight, we’re here! I just texted Hayley, and she is on her way down with a wheelchair to take you up.”

I look from Isaac to Luke with a huge smile on my face.

“This is it guys…”

They smile back at me, and we all share a kiss before Hayley, my OBGYN, walks out with the wheelchair. Within minutes, I’m in my official birthing suite.

Skip to twenty very, very long hours- we have two beautiful babies.

“What are their names going to be?” asks a nurse who’s filling out their birth certificates.

The three of us look at each other and smile.

“The girl will be Mia Elizabeth Martin. And the boy- Noah William Martin, after my father,” I tell her.

“Wow- beautiful names. Okay, I’ve got this all filled out- I’m going to step out to give your beautiful new family some alone time.”

“Thank you, Nurse Monica- you’ve been amazing,” I thank her.
