She winks at me and exits the room, leaving me alone with my beautiful family for the first time.
Suddenly, a knock sounds at the door.
“Come in!”
Our OBGYN walks in.
“Hayley! Everything okay? We thought you left.”
“Yes, everything is perfectly fine! I just wanted to be the one to tell you guys the DNA results. It turns out that both eggs were fertilized by two separate sperm- one from each man.”
“Oh my god…”
“Wait, so that means-”
“Yep! You are both biological fathers. Would you like to know who’s is who’s father?”
“Actually- no. Both children are equally all three of ours, regardless of DNA.”
“I knew you’d say just that! I didn’t even bring the results or look at them in case of a slip up. But just so you know- the results will always be available to you in case of medical reasons that may arise in the future.”
“Thank you so much, Hayley. We can’t thank you enough for how amazing you’ve been,” I tell her, tears streaming down my face.
“You are absolutely welcome, and I would love to recommend a pediatrician to you guys that works in my office, so I can watch these little babies grow up.”
“Oh we would love that! Text me the doctor's name, and we’ll get them set up!”
Hayley leaves, and once again my perfect family is all alone.
As I look around, I feel nothing but overwhelming joy. Each and every person in this room looks so happy and satisfied- even our two newborns. It warms my heart- this is all I could ever ask for.
“I love you guys, and I can’t wait to raise our children together and give them the best lives we possibly can.”
“Me too.”
“Me too.”
The three of us share a kiss, before Mia starts crying- shortly followed by Noah. We look at each other for a split-second before-
“Not it!!” we all yell, before breaking out into a fit of laughter.
