Five years later…

Mia and Noahare running around the yard liking the crazy and wild little people that they are. Luke and Isaac are chasing them. I love the laughter I hear coming through the window.

Today is the twins' fifth birthday. It has been a wild ride. Luke and Isaac are the best parents. They take care of us all with such love and gentleness. You’d never believe that they are two tough firefighters.

We are so very happy. Mia and Noah have no problem that they have two dads and a mom. We are so lucky to have met other threesomes with kids. We have a lot of playdates.

My life is so full. Today is not just a celebration of the twin’s birth. We are also celebrating the success of our family.

Luke comes inside and laughs at me icing two birthday cakes.

“The cakes I ordered are in the pool house.”

“What a relief. You are a prince among men.”

“I knew this day would be crazy. You are a great mom. You don’t have to prove it by making two cakes.”

Luke comes into the kitchen to give me a hug and a kiss. He can’t help himself and sticks his finger in the frosting bowl and then licks his finger clean.

“Stop it, Luke!”

I laugh and lick the frosting off his lips. He loves this. We start to French kiss.

“Hey, you guys, you’re kissing without me?” Isaac says.

“Come on in,” Luke says.

I put the icing spatula down and start to kiss both of them. I’m pretty into it but then I hear the backyard door slam and then the pitter patter of little feet.

“Mamma, when are the kids going to get here?” Noah says.

“I want to go on the bouncing thingy,” Mia says.

The three of us stop what we are doing to laugh. Luke and Isaac break away. I go to the twins and hug them.

“I told you the kids are coming after we eat our lunch.”

Isaac nods at Luke and they both start to get our lunch from the fridge. They put everything down on the table and the kids and I go sit down at the table. The kids are too excited to eat so I tell them to take a bite out of each of their sandwiches and then go to their rooms to wait.

Luke and Isaac come back to the kitchen. The three of us are also too excited to eat. I gather up our lunch and put things back in the fridge.

“We better go outside and put up the decorations for the party,” Luke says.

“Good idea, “Isaac answers.

“Are you guys still going to grill hamburgers and hot dogs?”

“Planning on it, “Luke says.

“I’ve got the meat and the hot dogs chilling in the pool house fridge.”

“Good deal,” Luke says, “Let’s get to it then.”

The guys come to me, and we all hive five. The snacks are already sorted in the fridge, so I’m not worried about having enough time to get everything out to the tables.

I feel happiness from my head down to my toes. This is going to be the best day.
