He leaned in and pressed a soft kiss to her lips. “Want me to get down on one knee? I didn’t think it through, so I don’t have a ring for you, but I’ll get you one, whatever you want.”
“We’re having twins,” she said, then immediately wanted to smack herself for the stupidity.
His answering smile had all the knots inside her loosening. “We are and I want them and you to have my last name.”
Then he did get down on one knee, and the damn tears started flowing just like they always did, but at least this time it was because she was so happy it spilled over.
“Of course,” she whispered.
Somehow his smile got even bigger. He stood and pulled her tight against him.
“Want to go do it in Vegas?” he said against her ear.
And Laura couldn’t help it—she threw back her head and laughed.
“What?” he said. “It started there, it should end there too.”
“When?”
“Well, we need to go back to the ranch to get Harper and my mom…and Ford.”
“Your brother?”
He nodded. “Yeah, our family.”
