He smiled crookedly and handed me the cigarette.“Nah. Not at the moment.” He paused and watched me inhale the smoke. I wasn’t coughing from it anymore. “Now it’s my turn to ask you something.”

My heart picked up its pace. I cocked a brow. “Oh?”

Drew grinned and flashed me his pearly whites in the cobalt darkness. “What do you want to do after high school?”

“Get the hell away from my parents,” I said without missing a beat.

I expected him to ask about that, but he didn’t. “No. I mean, what do you want todo?Who do you want to be?”

Drew studied me, and I focused the cigarette in between my lips before giving up and moving my eyes down to his mouth, to his lip piercing that glittered in the faint light. His broad shoulders twitched with the slight tilt of his head as his gaze enveloped me whole.

“Sing,” I said honestly.

It was the first time I’d ever revealed my dreams to someone else, and surprisingly to someone I barely knew. But it felt good to say it out loud. I found that I wanted to belt it from the rooftop.
