“Can you?I thought you had a flight to catch.”Mary frowned.

“What time is her appointment?”

“At ten.”

“I can do it.My plane leaves later in the day.By the way, can you do me a favor and take me to the airport at five?”

“Sure.”

“Okay, that’s settled.”

“So, what are you going to do today?”Mary asked.

“Dunno.Do you need help around the house?”

Mary rolled her eyes.“We could always use some, and we’re getting a garage ramp built today.”

Katie frowned, glancing at Mary and then back to Momma.“A ramp?”

“For Momma,” Mary said.“She’s having a bit of trouble getting around with the stairs.”

“Does she have a wheelchair?”

“No, she doesn’t need one now.She can use her walker, but if later she gets a wheelchair, then this ramp would be easier access to get from the car to inside the house and back outside.”

“You have a carpenter?”

“Not exactly.Chase does this kind of handyman work, and he’s been helping and doing a few jobs here on weekends.”

“I didn’t know,” Katie murmured, as a quickening stirred in her chest. She cleared her throat.“But doesn’t he have to take care of Timmy?”

“Oh no, he brings Timmy. The kid loves it.He’s a natural. You’ll meet him.”

“Chase had mentioned something about Timmy having a playdate yesterday and staying over with a friend. His face lit up when he talked about the child.”

“Yeah, Chase has been doing a good job raising him.Timmy’s turned out great. He’s a nice kid. You’ll see…”
