“I’m here begging your forgiveness. Please, Perdita. I’ll get down on my knees and beg. You don’t have to say yes now. I will wait. I’ve already waited so long. What are a few more days?”

“Days? Are you insane?”

Her mouth opened in surprise, making it too difficult to resist. He had planned to be gentle, but feeling the press of her soft, warm lips against his ignited all his suppressed needs. He devoured her mouth, sucking her lower lip, outlining the seams with his tongue before he pressed into her mouth. His tongue darting in and out and dueling with Perdita just as though they had never left off. The taste of her sweet lips filled a void in his soul. He couldn’t stop kissing her.

“Darling, invite me to your bedroom.” He gasped between kissing the sensitive spot below her ear that always drove her crazy.

She stiffened in his arms before pulling away. “Is that how it is done? I’m to invite you?”

He wanted to laugh and kiss her senseless all at the same time. “You silly goose. I want to make love to you, but I don’t want Reese or Totty to find us. They are like your parents.”

Then the woman he loved laughed. “Do you think Reese would challenge you to a duel?”

And suddenly the joking was gone since Roddy, if he were here, would possibly challenge him to a duel.

“Dash, I can’t do any of this…” She gestured to encompass them. “Roddy is missing. Right now, finding him is all that matters. And I need time to adjust to everything you’ve shared. I spent years thinking the worst of you.” She gave him a rueful half smile.

“We can wait. I’m a patient man.” Kissing his way up her arm, he nuzzled her neck, causing her to shiver.

She giggled. “You are not a patient man. Unless you’ve changed radically.”

“Darling, I’m a new man with you back in my life. A paragon of virtue.” He teased her nipple feeling it harden under his touch.

A flush spread across her chest as she leaned forward to give him more access. His self-restraint wavered with her moan.

“This is torture, darling.” His hands shook with the effort to pull away from her. “We must stop.” Speaking aloud helped him gain some semblance of control over the lustful fog blocking all rational thought. Every cell in his being cried out to take her, claim her as his. His logical self roused enough to know Perdita would regret a fast coupling in the library. When they came together, he wanted no regrets, no guilt, only pure pleasure and love.

He kissed her gently, taking time to rub his lips against hers. “We will wait until Roddy is returned.” He placed kisses on her nose, her eyelids, and then her lips. “And then I’m taking you to bed and never letting you leave.”
