Chapter 11

Jasmine

When I pull into the goat farm, I scan for Tyler’s white truck. The goats are fun.The ladies are nice. But it’s Tyler that has me eager to get out here every Wednesday.

I knew who he was as soon as he walked up that first day because I’d seen him in Daisy’s videos. But I wasn’t sure how to tell him I’d admired him online. That seems awkward, even for me.

His connection to Grayson and Daisy is why I’m not clamming up and erecting walls.I’ve met Grayson. He’s a good guy, and Daisy speaks just as highly of Tyler. So, for now, I’m enjoying the flirting.

But I have not admitted to Daisy that I’m coming out here or that I see Tyler once a week.I don’t want her trying to set me up.Even if he’s all kinds of good-looking.Like I said about the wedding, we’ll just see if there’s a lasting spark.

The way my cheeks heat when he’s around, I’m thinking that sparks might be happening.

He climbs out of his truck and strides toward my car, and I reach over and stuff my phone and keys in my bag.I’m really delaying getting out of my car until he is right next to me.

My car door opens, and I whip my head around in surprise.

Tyler grins.“Evening.Didn’t mean to startle you.”

“No.I just...hi.”I clasp his extended hand and step out of the car.My cheeks are probably flushed if the warmth in my face is any indication.“How are you this evening?”

“I’m good.Just out here helping Joji. She wants to put in a garden, and I said I’d help.”He flexes, revealing very muscled arms, then winks.“A little hard work is good for me.”

I laugh, which I’m sure sounds like flirting, but I can’t help myself. He’s funny.“Are you into gardening?”

“I’m not.But I did hear once that fish heads were useful when growing tomatoes.”He’s grinning like there is a joke in what he’s saying, and I’m not getting it.

“Some people swear by it.I’ve tried it.It works. They are great for adding phosphorus and calcium to the soil, which tomatoes love.”

He stays close, his lips turned up into a smile and his eyes twinkling.“I’ll have to remember that.Sounds like you know a lot about gardens.”

I nod.

“Mind if I ask advice from time to time?I want this garden to be great for Joji.”He nods toward the grassy area beside the garage.“She wants it over there.”

“I’m happy to answer questions.”If I linger here chatting with Tyler too long, I won’t be ready when everyone else arrives.“And I think it’s nice that you’re helping her.”

“That’s me.Nice.”He looks over my shoulder.“I should stop bothering you.Others are arriving, and I’m selfishly hoarding your attention.Maybe we can chat when it’s over.”

“Sure.”

After a tip of his hat, he strides away.

Since the night of the party, I’ve compared every guy I’ve met to a fantasy in my head.Tyler is the first one who makes me forget to compare when I’m talking to him.

Waving as the ladies get out of their cars, I walk over to the grass and roll out my mat.We have twice as many ladies as we did last week, and Joji has already mentioned adding a second night.

The goats jump from mat to mat, seemingly excited to have people around. The treats Joji freely hands out probably help.

Teaching yoga with goats milling about takes extra focus. They are distracting and funny. But I want these ladies to get the full benefit of yoga and the relaxation of having these cute animals in attendance.I lie on my back, then flip my legs over my body, demonstrating the halasana, also known as the plow.

The other ladies follow my lead, then start laughing as a goat uses my legs as a ramp. Here I am with my bootie in the air, and there’s a goat on it.

With arms crossed, Tyler is leaning on a fence post, watching the whole scene.

I pat the goat, hoping the little guy or girl—I didn’t check—will move along and let me teach. But this goat has decided to play king of the mountain.I’m the mountain.I add a shooing noise, but that only draws a holler from the beastly creature.

“Please just go.”I’m pleading with a furry animal, but it doesn’t seem to be working.
