Chapter 15

Jasmine

The Grindles are out of town for the weekend, which means they won’t be peering out their window, checking to see who is visiting me.And that’s good because I don’t want them making any comments that will scare Tyler off.Although, he doesn’t strike me as the type who scares off easily.

Normal people don’t time how long it takes for someone to drive to their house, but the normal train left the station a long time ago, and I wasn’t on board.Knowing how long it takes him to drive to my place might be helpful information someday. And it gives me something to do while I wait.

Seven minutes and eighteen seconds later, he knocks.

After I clear the stopwatch off my screen, I open the door.“Hey.You made it.”

Nodding, he takes off his cowboy hat as he steps inside.“Cute place.”

“The Grindles who live next door own it.I’m renting.”

He scans the living room, and his gaze lands on my wall of artwork.“Bottle caps.”Three strides take him across the room.“Did you make all these?”

“I did.The variety of colors makes them a fun medium for art.”

Grinning, he continues to stare at the wall.“Bottle caps. These are amazing.”

His blatant admiration of my art has my heart rate skyrocketing.I rarely show my pieces to anyone because they’re just bottle caps. But he makes it seem like true art.

“I’m impressed.”

“Thanks.”I hurry to the back door.“Let me show you where I plan to put in the garden.”

He’s right behind me as I step outside.“Great porch.”

“Right? And I figured the garden would go well over there.”

He walks down the steps, skipping the middle one, then heads through the yard.“In the ground or raised beds?”

“Ideally, I’d love raised beds.”

“Then that’s what we’ll do.”He points toward the front of the house.“I left my measuring tape in the truck.Let me grab it; then we can get to work.”

“Okay.”

Tyler has a trim build, but I’ve seen under his shirt. He’s all muscle. And when he slips by me, I feel that muscle brush my arm.

“I’ll need your help if you don’t mind.”

“No.Of course.I mean, I’ll help you however you need.”If I keep this up, I’ll volunteer to do the man’s taxes.“I’ll wait here.”

He winks and drags his boots across the mat before walking inside and through the house.

I gather the string and mini stakes I bought so we can mark off the sections.

When he comes back out, we put the first stake in the ground and measure.Together, we map out the three beds and record the measurements.

Tyler lifts his hand and smoothes back his hair.“We’re off to a good start. But you’re the expert, so tell me what’s next.”

“Putting down cardboard will help turn the weeds and grass into compost. It’s easier than trying to clear all the growth from these sections. Then we’ll build the beds and fill them with soil.”

“Lucky for us, Clint and Kent just moved, so I’ll snag us some cardboard boxes.”

“Great.Let me get you something cold to drink.”I open the back door.“Unless you have somewhere else you need to be.”
