“This is a unique way to meet men,” he teased.

By that point, I’d grown numb to the embarrassment. I laughed. “I couldn’t have done this if I tried.”

“It’s lucky for me you didn’t.”

“I’m sure rescuing some hapless woman who wandered into the men’s room is exactly what you wanted to be doing on your night out.”

He stood and tucked his hands in his pockets. “This is the most excitement I’ve had all day.”

I blinked, thinking at first that he was continuing to tease me, but then I realized he was serious. “Perhaps you need to get out a little more.”

“That’s what I hear,” he muttered.

I didn’t know what to make of that comment. A man walked in and eyed the two of us standing there. He seemed to take the situation in stride and altered his course from the urinals to a stall. The sound of the lock sliding home knocked some sense into me.Why the hell am I still hanging around in the men’s room?

“Well, thanks again.” I turned to leave, which is what I should have done the moment I realized my mistake. Though I’d hoped to have some celebrity encounters during my time in LA, that wasn’t what I had in mind.

“Can I buy you a drink?” His question stopped me in my tracks. I had been ready to slink off to the bar to dull my embarrassment with a mai tai.

Slowly, I turned and cocked my head. “Aren’t drinks complementary?”

It might have been my imagination, but his cheeks seemed to flush a little. “I stand corrected. Can Igetyou a drink?”

I opened my mouth to ask why the hell he would want to do that, but I kept the words in. I wasn’t drunk, but I was tipsy enough that words were escaping before I could rein them in. Truly, though, I didn’t understand why he would want anything to do with me after the first impression I’d made.

His faulty judgment was my gain. It was a night for celebration, and how better to spend it than grabbing a drink with a talented, kind, not to mention handsome, singer?

“Sure.” I allowed him to take my arm and escort me out of the men’s room to the soundtrack of a flushing toilet.

Oy vey.
