I casually sip on my wine while she downs hers. A decision she’ll soon discover is incredibly unwise, but it’s in my best interest to let her.

“Did Giovanni used to bring you up here?” I ask, bored.

“Don’t,” she spits out. “Don’t ask me about him. You don’t deserve to even say his name, let alone steal what’s his.”

“I can see why my brother was enamored. You’re beautiful and charming, but you have quite a mouth on you. It’ll be fun putting you in your place.”

Heat colors Falynn’s golden-brown complexion. I can tell because she develops a glow about her every time she flushes with emotion. The emotion this time must be anger. Her eyes narrow and she opens her mouth to back talk.

Only, she can’t.

The words she’s trying to say come out slurred. She tries again, but it’s no better. More slurred, sloppy speech.

“What…what’s happening…” she finally manages. She buries her face in her hands and mumbles through her fingers something about feeling dizzy. Her body liquifies as she slumps in her chair, no longer able to hold herself up. “What did you do?” she slurs.

“Princess,” I say with a smile as her lids grow heavy and her head lolls to the side. “I thought you needed a little help…loosening up.”
