PLAYLIST: ? CHERRY - LANA DEL REY ?

The worldas I know it has been flipped upside down.

I can barely pick my head up much less focus on what’s going on. My head rolls onto my shoulder as nothing around me sits still. Everything spins.

I close my eyes, hoping it’ll help. Instead, the sensation I’m floating intensifies. I must lean too far off to one side, because a second later, I almost slip off my chair. I’m righted by firm hands gripping my shoulders, holding me up.

My head hangs off the back of my chair and my eyes pop open.

Giancarlo looms over me, his face upside down.

“Have you never been high before?” he asks, halfway agitated. “Stop fighting it. Just go with it.”

Deep, deep in the foggy recesses of my brain, I’m so incredibly pissed this is happening to me. Giancarlo hasdruggedme and seems hell bent on taking advantage of me. I want to scream. I want to thrash. I want to kick him hard in his fucking dick and balls.

But…Ican’t.

My whole body warms and the floaty feeling makes it impossible to be anything but happy. The sense of euphoria bubbles in my chest and I smile.

Suddenly, the night feels wonderful.

The cool air plays across my skin and I marvel at the stars twinkling above. So deep in the city you’d think you wouldn’t be able to see them, but they sparkle against the inky black canvas as if magical.

Maybe they are.

Though it’s in vain, I stretch an arm into the sky to touch them. I forget all about Giancarlo until he speaks.

“What are you doing, princess?”

“Mmmm…feeling the stars,” I hum softly, my eyelids low. I couldn’t lift them if I tried.

Giancarlo’s large hands land on my shoulders again. His touch is firm and dominant, like he’ll rip me from this chair any second and force his lips to mine.

I haven’t forgotten about how he’d pinned me against the wall in the women’s bathroom. He’d grabbed my throat and sneered in my face. He’d come in so close, I was sure he was going to hurt me.

The fear had run deep, but now only pleasantness exists at the vague, foggy memory.

No, no, no…

“Mmmm,” I moan as the protesting voice fades. I sit up just barely, still more slouched than usual.

“Mmm, what?” Giancarlo asks. He reappears in my shaky line of vision, sitting on the edge of the dinner table. He always has to have the high ground; he always maintains a looming presence.

As he leans on the table, his large and muscular form inches away, I can only concentrate on how similar he and Gio look.

He’s an incredibly dark man. As dangerous as Gio. Maybe more dangerous in his instability. He’s a whole different type of beast than Gio.

The dead kind with no soul and no heart.

Yet as these dark thoughts float to mind, I can still only snicker. It’s impossible to muster up the energy to ruin the high.

“Why would you do this?” I ask with another helpless giggle.

“I told you,” he says, reaching out to brush a curl from my forehead. “You needed some help loosening up.”

“But…but I don’t want…not you…”
