“You weren’t ready to hear it, just like I wasn’t with Cole. Now, it looks like it has worked out for both of us.”

“We just started sleeping together, we haven’t talked about any sort of commitment to each other or anything beyond tonight.”

“But you’re seeing him tonight. It must have been one hell of an evening if he can’t wait to see you again.”

“He actually discussed that before things progressed, shall we say, between us.”

“Why don’t you start from the beginning and tell me everything? Within reason,” Faith said.

“He surprised me by taking me to Parkers,” I told Faith all about the evening. From going to dinner and us both getting a little tipsy. I left out how honest we had been after we had a bit to drink. It wasn’t something I wanted to share with Faith or really anyone. I did tell her how I wanted Mac to come home with me but how I had to practically beg him to.

“It all sounds so sweet and sexy. I never thought two things could exist at the same time but you two managed it somehow. I take it that you’re happy with how things worked out and are going?”

“Yes. Very. He’s so great. It just almost doesn’t seem real that he and I slept together,” I said.

“Does that mean you are together, together? Are you all official now?”

“We aren’t going to put out a press release or anything, if that’s what you are asking. I don’t know. It’s new, we’re happy. I can’t see either of us sleeping with the other and sleeping with anyone else. If I had to label us, I would say we are exclusive but non-binding, I guess. I have no idea. I'll have to talk to Mac when I see him tonight.”

“Will you actually talk to him about it? Or just wait until he introduces you to someone and hopes he calls you his girlfriend?”

“I’m going to talk to him. We are actually really good with that and about telling each other how we feel. It got pretty heated last night and honestly, it was freeing and empowering and sexy even, which I know sounds odd.”

“No, that sounds exactly like how a healthy adult relationship should be. I only hope that it translates into the bedroom. When you can talk and be honest in there, that’s where the fun really begins,” Faith said.

“There’s no need to elaborate on that more than you have. I get it. Thanks for the advice.”

“Advice? I was speaking from experience. You would think that sex would get boring after a while, but if done right, it doesn’t. It sounds like you and Mac are on the right track to doing everything right. You don’t need my advice; you’re doing just fine on your own. Sometimes, when you find the right guy, it just works. Everything just clicks into place.

“But please, little sister, don’t be like me and muck it all up and almost throw the man of your dreams away. Not that Mac is the man of your dreams, but you know what I’m saying. Keep the lines of communication open and everything will be fine.”

“Wait, I thought you said I don’t need advice. I still appreciate it. Thanks. I should let you go and get ready for work. I’m going to try to do the same,” I said.

“What are you doing with the story today?” Faith asked.

“A bit more background work, figuring out the setting of some of the scenes and then trying to decide how they’re going to look and make sure they’re authentic. I don’t want to be like a fellow student who had a phone in her scene when it was set in the seventeen hundreds.”

“You would never do that. Good luck. We should do dinner sometime soon, come over to the house, even bring Mac, if you want.”

I laughed. “I want to try to find a way to keep Mac around for a while, not scare him away.”

“We aren’t that bad, are we?”

“You might not be, but Cole would read Mac the riot act and have him shaking in his boots or running for the hills before the main course arrived. We aren’t there yet, not by a long shot, but I’ll gladly come over for dinner sometime next week.”

“Wonderful. I’ll let Cole know. Have a great day. The day after great sex is always a productive day for me.”

“Too much information. Love you. Talk to you soon. Bye,” I said.

“Love you too,” Faith said and ended the call.

I put the phone down beside me, stretched out one more time, and then bounded out of bed.

Faith was right, the day after great sex was a productive day. It turned into one of the best I had in a very long time. I was able to get a lot of research done and even felt ready enough that I started writing a brief chapter outline of the book. It was rough and would need more work and I was sure it would change as the book progressed, but it was a good start. I felt more confident about the book than I had in a long time, and I knew I had Mac to thank for that. He crept into my mind throughout the day but for the most part I was so busy with my writing and research that I didn’t see how much time had passed until I took a break.

Walking into my kitchen I saw that I had missed some text messages from Mac. I opened the messages and smiled at his comments.

Trying not to think of you naked in your bed and it isn’t working.
