The door to the loft opened, and Xander Scott strode in.

Summer sprang out of her seat before she remembered I was there.

“Hello, Eve,” Xander said as he shrugged off his jacket, giving Summer a quick hug and kiss, his arm lingering around her waist. “It’s nice to see you.”

“What are you doing here?” Summer asked her man, patting his chest. “It’s Monday at noon. I thought you had a meeting.”

Xander winked. “I do. With you. I figured we’d grab a bite to eat if you were free. I wanted to surprise you.”

That was my cue to make myself scarce.

I stood, walking the teacup into the kitchen, which was basically a few feet away. “You guys have a great lunch. I’ll catch up with you later this week, Summer.”

She moved forward, shaking her head. “No. You came over to see the logo. We had a date before Xander and I had a date. Let’s do the business stuff first. He can wait.”

“I can absolutely wait,” Xander agreed. “I’ll just grab some food and head back to the office. It’s not a problem at all.” This hot hunk of a guy was a tax attorney.

They were both so nice, but I shook my head adamantly. “Absolutely not. Forward me the images, and I’ll take a look, then we can meet in a day or two. There is no way I’m standing in the way of your date. Besides, my brain is so full of everything we talked about, I’m not sure I can focus on what you need to show me anyway.” Before Summer could argue further, I slipped by them and made my way to the door. “I’ll keep you posted about Marco. Bye, Xander!” I exited quickly and efficiently.

Before the door shut completely, I heard Xander say, “Goodbye, Eve. Sorry to crash your date.”

I giggled as I went down the stairs of the gorgeously refurbished mansion.

Summer was about to have an infinitely better lunch than me, and I didn’t begrudge her one second of it. I’d once been a proud member of the Nooner Club, and I was certain I would be again.

I just had to get Marco to tell me what was going on.
