CAN I JOIN YOU?

AIDEN

“Guess what I found on my way back here, Petal.” I had a small smile on my lips as I closed the main door behind me and looked at the box of macaroons that were Ivy’s favorite.

After my call, I knew she was uneasy. I had to make sure she knew we were on the same page about what we had done. I still smelt like sex and her and fuck, it was the best feeling ever. I wanted to fuck her again.

“Aiden.”

My smile slipped off hearing that voice. I stayed frozen in the hallway as I looked at her golden hair in perfectly coiled waves, her face sharp and eyes cold as she titled her head at me and the box in my hands.

“What the fuck are you doing here?” My voice was harsh enough to make anyone flinch, but it didn’t work on Addison. It never did. She would need a heart and emotions to know that I left her because I was angry at her, disappointed and miserable in our so-called relationship.

“Addison said she wanted to talk to you.” My eyes flickered to Ivy. Her wide blue eyes seemed concerned as she stood up from the couch. “I’ll be in my room.”

“It won’t take long for her to leave.” I glared at my ex when Ivy left us alone. I ignored her gaze on me as I kept the box of macaroons on the kitchen island and crossed my arms, facing her. “What do you want?”

“I’m pregnant.”

My brows furrowed as I stared at her face and her stomach. I clenched my jaw and wondered if she…no. Not with her, but what if she was?

“Whose is it? Because last time I checked, you were having sex with more than one person in our relationship.”

“We were engaged, Aiden.”

I chuckled and slid my hands in my pockets. “Wewere, Addison. I want you to take the paternal test. I always used protection.”

Her gaze narrowed as she walked around the house and I hated that Ivy let her enter—wait. “How did you know I was here?” I had packed my bags after finding her with her boss in our penthouse and left, leaving my ring on the coffee table. I had blocked her number and made sure she could never contact me again.

She hesitated, looking at me from the photo frames that lined on the wall.

“I had Hayden’s address saved on my phone.”

Of course, she did. Hayden had warned me two years ago on that ship that she was hitting on him but I had ignored it, thinking alcohol had to do something with it, but I was so fucking stupid and naïve. Hayden had warned me that she was with me because of my money, but I was too much in love with her to ever believe that.

“His sister is still cute,” she commented and pointed to a picture that had all three of us, me, Ivy and Hayden when we were kids.

“Addison.” I didn’t want her under my best-friend’s roof. Didn’t want her anywhere near Ivy. “Do you know who the father is?”

She straightened up and looked at me with her unflinching stare. “I don’t. I wanted to let you know before—”

“Before taking a paternal test? That was your stupid fucking plan? You think I’d come back to you just because you’re pregnant?” I took a deep breath and calmed down. “I want you to take the paternal test tomorrow in the morning. If you don’t, I’ll have my lawyers call you.”

Her eyes widened and cheeks flushed as she walked towards me in her high heels. Her dark dress was silk and looked expensive. She didn’t look like Ivy. She didn’t smell like vanilla or dressed in oversized clothes and fidgeted with her fingers when she was nervous.

Fuck.

What the hell was I thinking?

Of course, Addison is not Ivy. Then why the hell was I comparing them?

I must have hit my head somewhere.

“You can’t call lawyers on me. I am here for you, Aiden.” Her cheeks were flushed and her voice was turning high pitched. “Please, just hear me out. What you saw that day w-with Jeremy…”

I took another deep breath and answered, “Did he coerce you into sleeping with you?”

She remained silent.
