“Did he hold your hand, forced you to enter the entrance code of our penthouse and have sex in our bedroom that we were sharing for two years?” I asked, despite knowing I had seen the surveillance footage of them making out in the elevator, then in the hallway, before she smiled at him and pulled her own boss with his tie in our penthouse. “Oh, I’m sorry. I saw you riding him and moaning his name while my ring was on your finger.”

She shook her head, tears gleaming in her eyes.

When she remained silent, my gaze fell on the floor. “I was willing to go to relationship counselling with you.” A laugh made its way out of my throat before I looked at her shocked face. “I know, I was stupid enough to consider counselling for both of us… trying to save the engagement, but then I realized I never loved you, Addison.”

“I loved you, Aiden.”

“We were foolish kids in lust. Nothing more. I don’t remember how you look like without makeup, when we had our yearly anniversary or what you even like to do for fun. We never went out for dates and dinners and when we did, it was for the show. Either for your parents or for some fashion gala.”

Addison blinked at me, shaking her head. “N-no, no, I remember we went on dates, Aiden. We… we loved each other in our own way.”

“Then why did I feel so miserable in our relationship? Why did you cheat on me?” I shook my head, a headache forming in my head. “I’ve had enough of you, Addison. Please leave and never see me again.”

I let her wipe her tears as I stared at the television, remembering the movie night with Petal. I wanted to hold her. Caress her soft skin and ask her to talk to me about silly things so I could hear her sweet voice for hours.

“Do you love her?”

I looked at Addison, her pursed lips as she stared at the frame and gave me a sad smile. “I meant Hayden’s sister. Ivy. You always called her by a special nickname when we were in high school. Petal, right?”

My jaw clenched as she continued, her voice low, “I was always jealous of her. I knew she was just a kid, but the way she looked at you as if you were her entire world, as if you could never do anything wrong, keep her safe. A Prince Charming—she still looks at you the same way, you know.”I know. “She was so sweet, always baking extra cookies for me even when I was so jealous of a kid just because you loved her so much.”

I froze hearing her confession.

“And I thought, I could never compete with that.” A small sob tore out of her lips as she wiped her tears. Her nose and cheeks were flushed. “I could never compete with what you and Ivy had—have. So I tried to love you, show you all my perfections and hiding all my flaws because I didn’t want to lose you too, Aiden. When taking you to Denver wasn’t enough, I hinted at our future and you proposed to me the next day. You are a foolishly loyal man, Doctor Aiden Stone.” She chuckled weakly and, taking a deep breath, she faced me. “But now you need to be that loyal to her because she deserves it.”

Addison took out a paper from her purse and handed it to me. “I’m sorry, I lied to you.”

“What?” I unfolded it to see the test included her name as mother and her boss’s name as father.

“I know who the father is, I just wanted to… I don’t know, see your reaction and I was right. Sorry for that.” She caressed her stomach, ignoring my glare. “It is Jeremy’s, but I’m not sure if I’ll keep the baby. I came here to say goodbye and… you don’t have to worry about ever seeing me again.”

My eyes widened, “Addison, are you—”

She smiled and shook her head, “No, you need to learn to leave your therapist brain in the office. I am moving to London. Better job opportunity with British men and all.”

I nodded, processing everything she had said. She was moving on and leaving the country. Even though we had used each other for money, status, and sex, I felt relieved to know she would be okay on her own. Maybe I can email her a list of therapists when she gets settled in London.

She kept the familiar ring box on the kitchen island. The one I had opened in front of her on my knees.

“You better treat her right, Aiden.” Her voice was broken. “Or I will tell her brother. I’ve heard he’s a prince now, so you have to watch out.”

“I will treat her right.” My voice felt heavy and I couldn’t help it. I pulled her closer and hugged her one last time. “Take care of yourself, Addison.”

She sniffled and stepped back, smiling at me. “I will. Goodbye.”

I watched her walk out of the house with her chin high and I knew she would be alright. Leaning back on the counter, I sighed.

That was a long ass day.

I should talk to Ivy. I have to talk to her.

Knocking on her door, I opened it and found her room empty. The shower was running on and the door was ajar. My cock pressed against the confines of my pants as I thought of her naked body showering in the warm water.

Being a gentleman, I knocked on her bathroom door and hear her squeak, which made me smile. “It’s Aiden, Petal. Can I join you?”

She didn’t reply for a few seconds and I frowned, wondering if she heard me.

“But I am naked.”

“And your point?”

“You want to shower with me?”

“Yes. Preferably without clothes.”

“C… come in.”

Ivy didn’t need to tell me twice.
