Kenzie sighs and waltzes forward. When she passes me, she flicks hair over her shoulder that hits me in the face.

The rumble in my chest isn’t quiet. Damn it. I wasn’t ready to see her again. I needed to sort out my thoughts, but here she is, dressed in a sleek black dress, blue fuck-me heels, and a matching three-button coat that she tosses onto one of the chairs in front of my desk.

Her hands slide over her sides before she takes a seat in the remaining spot, then looks back at me, her hazel eyes roaming over my body. “Are you going to stand over there the entire time I’m here?”

I shut the door with minimal effort. I don’t need the employees hearing me slam doors.

I take calming breaths and stay quiet until I’m seated behind my desk. Kenzie’s uninvited appearance has given me an idea, one that just might be exactly what I need to tolerate these next couple of months.

With my emotions in check, I lean back in my chair and fold my hands lightly over my lap. I don’t miss how her eyes dart to my crotch and watch my movements. Yeah, she’s still thinking about that night.

Unfortunately, so am I.

“What do I owe the pleasure of this visit, Ms. Chase?” I ask.

Her head cocks to the side, and I know my change in tone has confused the hell out of her. Exactly what I was hoping for.

She crosses her legs, and I fight the desire to look down at her creamy skin.

“I came to discuss the needed items for Resolutions. I’ve been talking with Joyce since you didn’t respond to my earlier emails, and she insisted that I ask you the questions I have. So, here I am.” She smirks. “I hope I haven’t caught you at a bad time.”

I force a smile to my face. “Of course not. I must have missed the emails. What questions do you have?”

She reaches across to her jacket and pulls out a folded piece of paper. The dip at her hips and the way her dress hugs the curve there is hard to miss when she moves like that, but by the time she’s looking back up, I’m staring only at her face.

Her finger skims the sheet. “Let’s see, I need access to the drive that has the past year’s event figures. If I’m going to be reserving the rental equipment, I’ll need to be aware of how many people we anticipate showing up.”

“Understandable.” I slide closer to my desk and start typing while she continues with her “needs” list.

Past records, information on donors I’ve secured, buffet options or food trucks for the catering options, and insisting I review her list of pros and cons to each.

While I’m a little annoyed with her insistence, I’m also impressed that she’s gotten so much done already when I’ve only made one phone call for donations. I’ll have to get Brad to draft an email for me so I can get things going faster.

“Will there be anything else?” I ask when she stops talking to take a breath.

She nods and meets my stare. “I’ll need your phone number since your email doesn’t seem to take priority. That is, if you’d like any future visits to be planned. Oh, but don’t worry about sharing your address. I already have that should I need it.”

Her lips twitch, but I don’t take the bait. If she’s here to discuss business, what happened between us won’t be brought up in the conversation. Not if I can help it.

I grab a sticky note and jot down my number before handing it to her.

Kenzie’s fingers brush mine, and a shock zaps my skin. An odd noise sounds from her throat, and she quickly pulls away.

“Very well, Mr. Abbott. I guess that covers things, then.” She stands and swivels her ass in my direction, then she bends over for longer than necessary to grab her coat.

I clear my throat and stand. “I’ll be in touch once I have the other information you need.”

She turns back, and her heated eyes roam over me. It takes every effort not to move when she does. “Sounds excellent.”

Kenzie lets herself out of my office, and when the door closes behind her, I glance down at my traitorous dick. “That one is off limits.”

When I settle back into my chair, my phone pings with a text from a number not saved in my phone.

Unknown: Thanks for not kicking me out this time. I look forward to making this event a success.

I groan at her mention of “this time”.

This woman isn’t going to make anything easy on me, and I’m worried my earlier idea of treating her as a business deal won’t work.

If I can’t scare her away with my fury, fuck her out of my mind, or pretend she’s nothing more than a work thing to be dealt with, then what the hell am I supposed to do with Kenzie Chase?
