A blush threatened at the compliment. “I’m not always positive.”

“You seem it. You’re always laughing.”

“Not when I meet spiders in the shower.”

His face lit up with genuine mirth and it served to accentuate those exquisite cheekbones. “Ah, yes, maybe you met your match there.”

She shrugged to try and stop the sudden warmth in her belly going any lower. “Cancer—bah, piece of cake. Spider—death by sheer terror. Like, I mean—” She shuddered. “Was it poisonous?”

“No, it’s a huntsman. They’re totally harmless. And they like nice warm bathrooms. But I have to say, that was one of the biggest I’ve seen.”

“Trust my luck.”

Their gazes met and held for an intense beat.

“I’ll leave you to settle in then.” Oliver’s perfect façade snapped back into place as he turned to go. “I’m just across the corridor if any more creepy crawlies appear.”

“Thanks,” she said, trying to ignore the fact that the warm treacly feeling was now most definitely located between her thighs. “I promise I’ll scream if I need you.”
