“I think the first R-rated movie I saw was Nightmare on Elm Street. Or Maybe it was Child’s Play. I’m not sure. It was Halloween and I was at a sleepover. I didn’t watch them so much as woke up to seeing one of the characters on the screen. I didn’t go back to sleep after that.”

“I prefer psychological horror, personally.”

“Same. There’s nothing quite like sitting on the edge of your seat with that weird tingle on the back of your neck.”

“It lasts longer too.”

Kate bobbed her head, then dumped the dough on the counter so she could work on it some more. “How about The Goonies? It isn’t horror, but it’s definitely a classic.”

“That’s Dustin’s favorite along with Mrs. Doubtfire.”

“Oh god. My cousin and I used to watch that one all the time. Never got tired of it.”

“So Goonies?” I asked as I joined her at the counter.

“Yeah. It’s a date.” Kate smiled, then leaned her head on my shoulder.

A date.I couldn’t believe it. It was so easy. “A date?”

“That is what we’re doing, right? Dinner and a movie?”

“Or a sleepover.”

That got a laugh out of her! “So long as we aren’t watching Chucky, I’ll be okay.”

“No Chucky. Got it. Anything else?”

“I close today at seven.”
