Let it come.I gritted my teeth as my wolf clawed under the surface.I’m ready for it.

Ready to run. To chase. To kill.

If anyone got in my way, it’d be their head hanging on my wall.

“Liv?” Dustin ran after me, putting on his shoes as soon as we reached the front door. “Let me go with you. You shouldn’t do this alone.”

“You.” The growl in my voice wasn’t for him. “I never should’ve listened to you. I fell for her, and it’s all your fault.”

“I know. I know.” He held up his hands, then took me in his arms. “I’m sorry, but you were so happy–”

“I was. I was also fine before you talked me into this mess.” I was angry, hurt, and I was taking it all out on him.

And he let me. Goddammit. He let me.

He took my anger, my snide remarks, and my punches to the chest. All the while, he held me, rocked me, and stroked my hair.

“I’m sorry you’re hurt,” he said once I was through. “But now you know.”

“Now I know what?” I wiped my tears off on the bottom of my shirt.

“Who you’re meant for.” There was a huge smile on his face.

“Did you know?”Please say no.I could take my folks keeping secrets from me, but if they’d talked Dustin into doing it as well–

“No,” Dustin said, “but I should have. I’m usually better at eavesdropping than that.”

I bit back a laugh. “I really am a mess, aren’t I?”

“You’re my sister.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“It means that even if I’m younger than you, I’ve got your back. Mom and Dad can’t hide this from you anymore.”

“Not that it matters. They’ll never let–”

“It matters to me,” he said, cutting me off. “It matters to your wolf. And I bet you if you asked, it matters to her.”

I bowed my head. “But she lives hundreds of miles away.”

“So go to her.” He made it sound so simple.

“Mom and dad will disown me for sure.”

“Mom and dad don’t have to know.” He waited a moment, then took my hands in his. “Listen to your heart. What is it telling you?”

“What you’re suggesting is a fairytale. It’ll never work out.” That was my fear talking, not me.

“I’m not asking about that.”

“But we aren't kids anymore.”

“Exactly, which means you can go out on your own.”

“Wait… but…” I looked at him with tears in my eyes.

“Go on. I’ll be fine. Besides, it isn’t like you’ll be gone forever. I survived an entire vacation without you. I can handle myself for now.”

“But what if she says no?” Just because we’d agreed to try things out, that didn’t mean we’d last forever.

“After everything you’ve told me about her, I doubt that’ll happen.”

“But if it does?”

“Then I’ll be the first one to welcome you home.”
