Andrea gave him a little noncommittal shrug of her shoulders. “I’m not sure. I don’t think that’s in my contract. I’m only responsible for getting you the covers. Fighting off the bingo squad will cost ya extra. Maybe you could deflect them towards Rhys?”

Declan grinned at her then and it was like the years had slipped away and they were bantering with one another like old times, before they had fallen apart, and she had done a runner. Andrea took in his eyes, the slant of his mouth, the way his stubble framed those full lips and it made her stagger, with Declan reaching out to steady her.

“I got you. I’ll always be there to stop you from falling.”

Her heart skipped a beat as she tried to brush it off, glancing at the river before she responded. “You just want to make sure I don’t toss you into the river.”

Andrea swore she saw his smile falter, then he winked. “Sure, that’s it. And to protect me from cougars.”

She couldn’t help but return his smile, then she yawned and clapped a hand over her mouth, offering an apology but Declan just rested his hand on the small of her back, leading her inside the hotel and toward the elevator. He pressed the button, seemingly unaware that there was a photographer standing to the side, his camera phone out as Declan reached out and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, then grazed his lips across her cheek.

“Good night, Andrea.”

“Good night, Declan.” Her tone came out huskier than she wanted and his eyes flared before he took a step back, and walked to the stairwell, leaving her to lean against the wall and let out a harsh curse before she slipped into the elevator, thankful she was on a different floor to the band.

Andrea wasn’t sure what she had expected to happen when she went to talk to Declan tonight, but it wasn’t the easy banter and chaste kisses they had shared. It left her even more confused than she had been and now, she wasn’t sure what to feel.

Perhaps Declan had ruined her for anyone else. She had known the intensity of his kiss; had felt the way his hands had moved over her body and she hated herself that she still wanted more. Andrea still wanted the picture in her head of a happily ever after with Declan. She wanted him to steal kisses when he left her like Noah did with Charlie and for everyone to know that they were a thing.

Tomorrow would be the start of Declan’s step into stardom and once he was centre stage, he would forget all about her and what might have been.
