“You know I can take those clothes off for you.”

At that, she did roll over. Just like in my imagination, she propped herself up on her elbows. Except instead of a lustful expression, she wore a glare. “Just because I know you can doesn’t mean I’m going to make this any easier for you. Let me guess, you just snap your fingers and poof, they’d be off in the ether somewhere?”

“Not exactly.” I crouched next to her and grabbed the material of her tank top between my thumb and index finger. “My magic is limited to the natural elements. I could call the earth to me, the way I called it in the alley. The branches and thorns would take care of something this flimsy easily. But that seems rather violent, doesn’t it?”

Her breath hitched, and her heart beat a heavy rhythm against her chest. With every deep inhale, those luscious mounds pressed temptingly against the oh-so-thin fabric of the teasingly thin shirt.

“I could burn them off and probably avoid singeing your skin. But I would never take the risk with skin so precious.” At that, I rested my flat hand against her stomach. Not grabbing or groping. Just touching. “Water, I admit, would be messy. We’ll cross that off the list. Air, however...” Air was one of the harder elements to control, but I focused all of my attention on the thin strap of the top she wore, and, inch by inch, it moved until it fell down her shoulder. It was only the material being stretched over the curve of her breast that kept the shirt from totally falling down on the side.

She let out a little moan, and the perfume of her arousal spread through the small room.

It was the best fucking thing I’d ever smelled. “So you tell me, my queen, how would you like me to undress you?”

She opened her mouth but for a few long moments, no sound came out. Her dark eyes were even darker with desire, and my cock was so hard it could bend steel. She might act shocked and appalled, but some part of her was drawn to my darkness.

“I don’t want this. Why are you making me feel this way?”

“Human, I might be powerful, but I can’t change how you feel. It was magic that brought me here. Magic that helped me keep you. But what we have between us is wholly ours. And deep down, you know that.”

She shook her head but didn’t say anything to deny it. In fact, she changed the subject back to her taking off her clothes. “I’m not getting naked in front of you. Not gonna happen.”

“I’m not a heartless being,” I said. “And as you know, I’m a fae of my word. So why don’t we strike another bargain?”

She scoffed. “Because that worked so well the last time.”

I shrugged. “Consider this practice. Just make sure you choose your words carefully.”

She pushed herself up until she leaned back against the wall. Her cute little brows were pushed together, and I could tell her analytical mind was twisting away. What I wouldn’t give to get inside that mind to see what she was really thinking...

“So what do you want?” she asked hesitantly.

“I want you to be comfortable. Or as comfortable as possible,” I amended before she could say anything. “So your end of the bargain would be to shower and then sleep in the bed. Both things that you would enjoy, I might add.”

“I’ll do that if you promise not to touch me.”

“I promise not to touch you tonight unless it is for your own protection.”

She frowned. “What if you think I need to be dirty with you for my own good?” She shook her head. “No dice.”

“If you shower and sleep in the bed, I promise not to touch you tonight unless your life is in danger.” She took a moment to think about it, but I was losing patience. “Might I remind you that you’re on a bathroom floor.” Although it looked clean and she was on a bed of towels, it was hardly sanitary.

Sure, if she got sick, I’d be able to heal her, but she didn’t know that.

“All right. You have a deal.”

“Seal it with a touch?” I held out my hand like she’d done before.

“Touch? Oh, you mean a handshake.”

“After this, no more touching. You have my word.”

She pursed her lips as she reached out, and my big hand enveloped hers. Her hand was so soft, all I could think of was how soft other parts of her would feel…

She pulled her hand away, and I let her. As happy as I would be to simply stare at her all night, she had been through a lot today. She needed to wash the day off her and prepare for her new life by my side.

I retreated to the doorjamb, where I leaned back and crossed my arms.

“You have got to be kidding me,” she said with a sigh of exasperation.
