Raina’s soft, full lips pressed against mine, and the world stopped. Clouds halted moving, birds stopped flying, and leaves froze in midair.
Raina’s lips on mine were the only thing that mattered. She had kissed me. Of her own free will, with no deals or bargains struck.
I don’t know what caused her change of heart, but I wasn’t about to risk it. As her lips moved over mine, I stayed utterly still, not wanting to frighten her away.
I let her explore and set her hands on my shoulders. But when her little tongue pressed against my lips, my control snapped.
I gripped her waist and pulled her against me, setting her over my lap, her thighs on either side of mine.
It was too much too fast. I knew it. Logically, I should hold back. But I couldn’t. Raina had kissed me.

Raina was still straightening her skirt when I emerged. Xian gave me a half grin, and I snarled at him in response. Even if he was on my side in this, I didn’t want Xian to think of my female like that. Especially not with his reputation.
“What did you find?” I asked, effectively getting his mind back on the job at hand.
Xian switched back to serious mode. “Nice enough for a human residence. There are rooms for all of us and enough for each of the residents I put to sleep to use a bed.”
She glared in our direction but didn’t say anything. I thought she would be happier. At the last house, two of the residents were put into their sleep on the floor, and Raina made her displeasure well known.
This evening was all about her pure pleasure.
“What’s the plan?” She crossed her arms as though she still wasn’t happy with the care we’d taken for the humans.
