Chapter15

The next hours were torturous. I’d led wars, sabotage, and coups, but never once had I felt as threatened as I did while unable to even look for Raina.

With all my powers over the elements and the centuries I had spent growing my power, there was nothing I could do to find her.

In a fit of rage, I grabbed the speed limit sign Xian and I stood next to and pulled it straight from the ground.

We were limited in our magic here without any sorcerers from home. We had the spells that allowed us to speak, put humans to sleep, and a talking mirror.

But the damn mirror only worked if the person we were trying to contact had one too.

Which meant I could destroy this entire planet if I wanted to but had no idea where to start looking for Raina.

I tossed the sign as hard as I could, which firmly embedded it into the trunk of a nearby tree.

“Calm yourself,” warned Xian.

Even though he wasn’t throwing shit like I was, he hated this too. We didn’t sit and wait for help. When there was a battle to be fought, we moved forward.

“Why would he go after her?” I snarled. The question had been playing on repeat in my mind. We weren’t bonded. I hadn’t even claimed her.

What was Seran planning?

And more importantly, why did I care?I specifically came here to collect a woman who couldn’t be held against me. Who would be obedient and not twist up my own mind.

And the thought of Raina getting even a single scratch on her from anyone, let alone Seelie scum like Seran, filled me with a rage so deep that...

I punched through a concrete divider. Bits of rock and dust burst out in a suffocating cloud.

“I’ve never seen a fae king throw a temper tantrum.”

I twisted around to snarl at the newcomer, but forced myself to hold back.

If he knew who I was, that meant he was the half-breed elf we were waiting for.

“State your name,” ordered Xian. Just because we assumed he was the half-breed didn’t mean we should rely on that.

“Dikie. I got the funniest message in my mirror about a certain Unseelie royal who wanted my help. Can you imagine that?”

Dikie was half human and half elf. While fae human hybrids took on mostly fae genetics, elves went half and half. Any human wouldn’t know they were looking at an otherworldly creature.

Dikie was tall and slender like most elven kind, with half-pointed ears and brows in an unnaturally sharp arch. Half-breeds like him would never be fully recognized in the Land of Fae. They were too weak to defend themselves and would be the runts of the land.

But on Earth, they were powerful and respected. The humans were drawn to them, even if they didn’t know why.

And on this plane, they were some of the few beings who could wield magic. Which meant this was one of the only beings on this goddessforsaken plane who could get me to Raina.

So I was going to cut right through any diplomatic bullshit. “I need to find a human who was stolen from me, and I need transportation. Name your price, half-breed.”

Dikie raised one of those sharp brows. “For one, you can stop calling me half-breed. I have a name, fae.”

“Done. Dikie. What else do you want?”

“I don’t know. I have it pretty good here.” He leaned against the wreckage of the divider that was still standing and looked up and down the deserted highway. “Pretty girls, full bank account. There’s not a lot you can offer me.”

Xian set a hand on the concrete and a moment later, it started to glow red and burned hot enough that Dikie jumped away, cursing the burns on his ass.

“You two really need to work on your manners.”
